Bryan thanks for a great time - what a legend. The crossing is fantastic place to stay. We stayed here for two nights when we came to do the Tongariro crossing and we just loved the place from the extensive tv, games and pool room to the secret cinema! We had a really comfortable sleep on both nights and made good use of the kitchen which was always clean and had everything we needed. We would recommend the Crossing to anyone!!!

Bryan you are CLASS. Good luck with the Lonley Planet, the Crossing should be on for sure!!!!

What a fantastic time we had in this rabbit warren with lots of R&R areas to hang out and relax after a long drive and then after a long walk. The lounge was very comfortable. We didn't see the kids as they were so busy. Bryan couldn't do enough for us. I highly recommend the family units - great value, 5-star hotel quality bedding and the whole place was spick and span. The large kitchen had every utencil you could possibly need and other necessities with hot coffee and tea on tap 24/7.

Room Tip: Family units have a deck and en-suite bathroom.

We've stayed there in February, we had an amazing time there. The property is huge and you have a lot of activities to do : paintball, flying fox, watching tv and movies in the secret room, relaxing in the spa pool, playing pool or enjoying a few beers by the fire place. The owners are great and they'll help you with anything (they'll pick you up and drop you of at the bus stop). the room are big enough and the bed are comfortable, the bathroom and showers are great Overall you will feel like you're in a chalet in the french alps. Internet is expensive because it's in the country so you should go to the coffee or bar in National park village where it will be cheaper or maybe free. Oh, and if you can, do the northern circuit instead of the crossing, you will see much more things and it's less crowded.

Owner MIA, other staff highly unfriendly and unco-operative, only interested in making sure they had a drink in their hands, bathrooms not cleaned on the Saturday or Sunday, terrible water pressure, room had a musty smell, very thin walls so we could hear everything going on next door as well as the trains. Definitely not what was expected. We won't be back that's for sure. Next time we in the area we will go to a proper backpackers up the road.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere for a good room.

After this review the owner was put on suicide watch but even worse than this he did not have a drink for at least 2 days, it’s ok tho people we convinced him that he isn’t going to please everyone (which is his life’s ambition) and told him to keep building a cool place for people to enjoy, which he is…. But he is truly disappointed for you not to enjoy your holiday and can only offer a friendly tip, don’t expect anything you might enjoy the unexpected.

This accomodation (double ensuite) offered probably the highest value/cost ratio of all hostels we stayed during our 1-month NZ-trip. We really regretted that our schedule didn´t allowed us to stay for more than two nights.
It is a pitty that this hostel is relatively difficult to find as it is not included on most servers if you are searching accomodation under "national park" or "tongariro crossing".
Very friendly and sociable owner creates definitely important part of the unique atmosphere you will enjoy here.
