Beautiful cave with nice local Maori guide. Enjoyed learning more about the formation of the rocks, stalagmites, stalagtites. Really good trip!

“Stunning caves”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

These caves are truly stunning, with magnificent stalactites and stalagmites (and even rock weta!). The guide told interesting information and gave much opportunity for taking pictures.

“Amazing Cave”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

We really liked the walking tour of Aranui Cave a lot. Less people than Waitomo Cave (which is also terrific). It's farther down the road than Waitomo Cave but definitely worth doing.

“Lesser of the three but still magnificent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2012

We did the three cave package and if we could only have done two I would have left this one out but it still rates as magnificent. It is a shorter tour but the limestone architecture is still hugely impressive, especially the nativity scene

“Average”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2012

We saw all three caves (Ruakuri, Glowworms and Aranui). The other two were entirely amazing. But this one had lots of broken formations (due to the actions of previous explorers) and subsequently, everything was behind these fairly ugly gates. There wasn't anything in this cave you wouldn't see in other two, so if I were going to see the Waitomo Caves, I'd get the double pass for the Glowworms and Ruakuri and give this one a miss. It's an extremely short tour, but doesn't cost any less than the Glowworms.
