“A "must see" destination in NZ”
Reviewed November 29, 2010

I have travelled there with some visitors from overseas. It's a great place to learn more about the NZ birds and lizards. Very informative and the staff is super friendly and helpful.
In the nocturnal house I loved to watch the kiwi birds running around and searching for food.
Seeing tuataras sitting next to the footpath and giant wood pigeons and parakeets flying overhead is another great "real life" experience.
It’s a worthwhile trip.

“really worth a visit”
Reviewed November 18, 2010

We went during the day as we stopped here. You are guaranteed to see a Kiwi as they have darkened rooms to view and we saw two. one was active walking around looking for food One was a baby sleeping (very cute). There are lots of other birds to see as well including owls, kingfishers ducks and oddly enough eels. Its a small place however lots of fun and well worth a visit

“Worth the wait ...”
Reviewed October 15, 2010

We had to reschedule our Kiwi Watch for the following night due to bad weather but it was well worth the wait. As we approached the shelter, one of the pair was nearby but then ran away. A little while after the food was positioned, the male came out, had a feed, then he called out to the female who also had a feed. The second time they came out, they had some sort of "dance" and had another feed. In the still, cold September evening, while waiting for the birds to come out, we could hear animal calls.

We also got to see and touch a kiwi egg and the kids got to feed the eels after.

The staff were very friendly and accomodating.

My son was so excited that we got to see the kiwi 3 times when some, we were told, were not so lucky.

“AMAZING”
Reviewed October 7, 2010

We did the kiwi watch at nighttime, and it was fabulous! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and so nice! It's dark and you have to be quiet because the kiwis get spooked, so not the best for kids, but I had a blast. We saw 4 kiwi birds and as an animal lover, I would definitely recommend it!

“Friendly, welcoming, professional, superb views of kiwis, plus other birds”
Reviewed August 27, 2010

A very well set-up and run attraction, with friendly, knowledgable staff. Very conservation-minded, an excellent place to see and learn about kiwis. Lots of other NZ birds to see too in accessible and bird-friendly enclosures. Very glad we visited - in a crowded tour of NI, rather than the Rotorua (or one or two other) kiwi centres.
