“Birds of a feather”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2014

With the largest number of flightless bird species in the world, a trip to NZ would be incomplete without a visit to the Kiwi House. Entry fee is reasonable, the staff is very enthusiastic and informative and encourages your interaction with the feathery inhabitants. The gift shop features postcards of the various species of the nocturnal Kiwi so you can take home a photo (photos not allowed only in the Kiwi area). Lots of photo ops in the rest of the park. Feeding the parrots by hand in the aviary is a treat for both young and old.

“Surprising little park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2014

I went into this expecting a dinky local park. It was bigger and nicer than I thought. The kiwis were cute and well taken care of but you can't get good pictures (to protect the birds). There were a lot of other birds, too. It was a nice way to spend a few hours.

“a kiwi experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2014

The Otorohanga Kiwi House is an excellent follow-up to a visit to the Waitomo Caves, and is about 15-20 minutes' drive away, through beautiful rural scenery. The entry fee is 22 NZ$, much less than many attractions hit you for, and so that's a plus. And it was worth it. First stop, the kiwi house, where we watched a young chap being attacked and kicked and clawed and pecked by a demented female kiwi who was obviously hungry. This display was highly amusing, and worth the entry fee by itself. The centre has a wide range of birds, including duck, falcon, heron, tui, kaka, kea and morepork. There are also brightly coloured tuatara.

Great place to see the Kiwi and other native NZ animals. It is a nice facility in the Kiwiana Capital of New Zealand.
