Knowledgable and great staff.
Lovely little area to stop in
They have Kiwi birds on rotation so you don't miss out on seeing these night dwelling creatures

It has the only spotted kiwi on exhibition in the north island, so well worth a visit for that if you are in the area. Admission is $ 22 so not to bad and worth it to help the kiwis. But the area needs a bit of a cleanup and modernization.

Thank you so much for a great visit. The staff were really friendly and full of information. We loved seeing Maureen with Atu - that was an amazing thing to have experienced. The kiwi had so much personality and we could really see the relationship between Maureen and the kiwi. Great kiwi gifts too.

It is nice to see organizations trying to save the native bird against all odds. The meseum gives you a good feel for what they are against. Only three kiwis were on display, but still nice to see them. Being a amateur ornithologist, I enjoyed the different fowl. A bit pricey to enter, but it is going to a good cause.

This kiwi house is well worth a visit if you are in the area. It is not as well equipped as the similar place in Queenstown (but Queenstown has the advantage of being a massive tourist centre) but is still good value for money. You are practically guaranteed to see a kiwi during your visit as they have two 'exhibition' kiwis and the staff have cleverly staggered their sleep times so that there is always one awake. The staff are obviously passionate about their work ( and one kiwi was passionate about its keeper! Which was lovely to see)The walk through aviary was really enjoyable. There is a degree of upgrading being done, which will improve the experience. There didn't appear to be anywhere to get a drink or something to eat on the day I went, which was a shame, but it didn't spoil my enjoyment. I just wish that I had taken a packed lunch with me.

Thank you! We're glad you enjoyed your visit. Unfortunately we don't have the resources to supply food & drink at the moment, but there are lots of eating options in Otorohanga township, just 5 minutes away.
