Was hoping to actually see the real Kiwi birds in New Zealand but was disappointed at the Auckland Zoo. Finally get to see the real and active one at the Kiwi House!!! My advice is to check the feeding time on their website first and be there at that time. Because kiwis like to stay in dark places and are afraid of noises. They might be hiding or sleeping if wasn't feeding time. We are lucky to see the kiwis picking their food and running around. Only two kiwi birds are displayed there but you'll get to see a lot other birds and lizards (if you like them).

This kiwi house is great. you can get right up close to the kiwi's and they are fed at 3 o'clock which is a lovely sight.

Happened to arrive at feeding time and were entranced to see the interaction between the lovely young lady and the Giant Spotted Kiwi. The Kiwi was obviously besotted by her as well as an enthusiastic feeder. The massage given by the attendant to the Kiwi was amazing with the Kiwi looking so blissfully happy, so special. This is the best Kiwi viewing I have ever had. It was very informative and fantastic to see such an active bird. Likewise the other Kiwis. This is an excellent and educational attraction and very worthy of a visit.

Like other reviewers have said, it is bigger than it appears and has a nice selection of New Zealand native wildlife and the grounds are also very pleasant. The night tour was also awesome. One of my son's goals on the trip was to see as many kiwi as possible. I thought this one was simply taking us in the small enclosure in the facility - nope! That enclosure is on a different light schedule so you can see them foraging during the day. They also have two huge enclosures in the park next door where the kiwis are on the regular nighttime schedule and a hide that is underground with a viewing window at ground (kiwi) level so you can view the kiwis essentially in their natural habitat. We saw several of them as they foraged in the bush - one even came right next to the hide window!! The guide then took us for a walk in the park to a place we could see some glowworms.

The Kiwi's were great. We were there at feeding time and the staff member who did the talk was very friendly and informtive. She also gave "Atu" the female Great Spotted Kiwi a head and neck massage which is about the most enaging thing I have ever seen between human and bird.

The rest of the place was very average. The aviaries looked tired and some were shabby and a lot of the information boards could have done with an update.
