Kamahi Cottage is such a delightful place. The minute we drove up, we were enchanted by the beautiful cottage and glorious setting overlooking the valley below. Liz and Evan, our hosts, have amazing attention to detail in all that we experienced. We had delicious food in their home, the gardens are spectacular, and we so enjoyed the little cakes and tarts that magically appeared on our kitchen table. Liz was very helpful with our travel routes, and anything else we needed. I would highly recommend Kamahi Cottage to anyone who appreciates quality at its finest.

We started planning our weekend in the Waitomo area two months ago, but were thwarted by a terribly large and productive storm which Liz was afraid would wash out our weekend. It was rescheduled and everything went just perfectly, so we're happy to have had the option. This kind and generous gesture was so indicative of the gracious hostess that you will find in Liz. Her love for her home, the cottage, and the area was evident in every part of our three day stay. The cottage is sunny, clean, comfortable, and quiet. There is a lovely selection of teas, coffee, and fresh baked goods, and ample extra pillows, duvets, and blankets. The small front porch with hammock chairs overlooking the fields of maize and farmland for miles and miles was so relaxing that we could've sacrificed the rest of our plans to sit there reading for three days. However we found the glow worm caves magical, so we're glad we did venture out!

You will not go hungry if you stay here either. Liz obviously loves cooking and we enjoyed our breakfasts and also one dinner immensely. She even remembered that my son had just turned 13 and there was a birthday cake waiting in the cottage upon our arrival.

Kamahi Cottage was a bit more expensive than many of the other B&B's and homestays that we've been in recently, but it was well worth the extra. The level of service and accommodation here is beyond others that we've seen. And the others were quite good! :o) Thanks Liz and Evan!

My husband and I stayed here for one night on our honeymoon and wish we couldve stayed for a week. The property and views are absolutely spectacular and Liz and Evan were fabulous hosts. If we could do it over again, we wouldve had Liz cook us dinner, because our breakfast was so delicious. Liz told us about a brush walk where we could see glowworms at night so we took some flashlights and headed out after dark, and seeing the glowworms illuminated under a perfect starry night was one of the highlights of our trip. New Zealand is an amazingly beautiful country and Kamahi Cottage is a must-stay! Don't miss the Lost World Cave Tour in Waitomo, it was so cool. -Sarah and Randie

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and your torchlight "glowworm" walk through the Ruakuri Scenic Reserve - it really is a magical trail and so easy to access.

We recently stayed at Kamahi Cottage after touring the North Island for 2 weeks. These were our last nights in NZ. We stayed for 2 nights...what a mistake. It should have been longer!
The accomodations are amazing. The view is incredible. From the fresh ground coffee, the daily baked treats, well stocked refrigerator...and the meals...OH MY GOSH - THE MEALS! (more on them later) it is hard to descibe the comfort of this place.

Liz and Evan are wonderful people. You feel as if you have known them forever.

Evan is a bagpiper. Both mornings he played his pipes for us a we walked from the cottage to the homestead for breakfast...talk about cool! He is a very intellectual person and a great converstaionalist.

Liz is the Consummate Host. She strives to make your stay at Kamahi both comfortable and relaxing. She delivers on both! The breakfasts are DEVINE...the dinners are INCREDIBLE!!!

The breakfasts are made with the freshest ingredients; locally roated coffee, homemade jams, homemade muesli, eggs from her daughter's chickens, freshly baked breads...and Liz will serve it to you in the cottage or you can come to the homestead and enjoy.

As for the dinners...If you choose NOT to have Liz prepare your dinner, you are making a HUGE mistake. The table is set with fine china, silver, candles and fresh-cut flowers. The food is tremendous...and you will definitely enjoy every bite (in NZ nobody cares if you lick your plate). Liz prepares every dish with love and skill...and fusses over you like you are royalty.

For true NZ hospitality, great food, and gracious hosts, stay at Kanahi Cottage...a wonderful memory.

As soon as we arrived we realised we had come to stay in a very special place. The cottage is adorable, very clean & everything is provided for a relaxing stay. Boutique teas, complimentary port & schnapps, freshly ground coffee to make in your own infuser, all the toiletries you require & freshly made cake on the dining table for us to enjoy. When we met Liz we felt instantly at home, she is so welcoming, I felt like she was an old friend. My family & I (2 teenagers, 1 husband) were welcomed into Liz & Evan's house for dinner & it was just magic, silverware on the table, flowers, candles, you name it & Liz fussed over us like we were royalty! (Evan played the bagpipes for us). Liz is an amazing cook , the family had roast beef with all the trimmings & I had the best vegetarian meal I have had in months. We will definately be going back, but this time for more than 1 day!

Kamahi Cottage is set in lush farmland about 14 kilometres from Otorohanga and the long views across to Mount Pirongia are sectacular. The cottage is extremely comfortable and very well presented. The range of "little extras" is great and were much appreciated.
Liz and Evan are very convivial hosts and Liz is a great cook. We thoroughly enjoyed dinner and breakfast in their company.
We have stayed in many cottages around New Zealand but nothing as completely satisfying as Kamahi Cottage.
We have no hesitation in recommending Kamahi Cottage to others

I just don't know what to say about how amazed we were with this cottage.

Let's start with the negative - NONE! The only slight surprise was the drive to the accommodation - it's up quite a steep, unlit and unlined road for quite a while, but we managed it with ease in a full Ford Falcon so it shouldn't pose a problem for many vehicles.

The cottage is owned and run by Liz and she is probably the perfect mixture of attentiveness and leave-alone we've ever come across in a proprietor of guest accommodation. She cooks like a dream - really the best food we had in New Zealand, and we had some fantastic food. She also has a good selection of wines to accompany your meal. The little welcoming touches - homemade apple cake and lemon squash on arrival, the DVD library, complimentary port and home made drinks - made it feel far more like visiting your favourite friends than staying in guest accommodation.

The food! Liz cooked a most fantastic meal - cooked in the farmhouse and carried across by Liz to the cottage, so you have privacy. It was so good, I went home with recipes! Really it would have been worth staying there for the food alone.

But there was more - the view from the cottage across the National Park was absolutely amazing. We arrived at sunset and it was simply breathtaking to watch the sun sink behind the mountains over the vast and verdant valley. The ground floor was spacious and clean with comfortable furniture and beautiful complimentary toiiletries in the large downstairs bathroom (although no bath but we didn't mind that).

Teenage daughter had the sofabed on the ground floor and hubbie and I had the upstairs bedroom in the eaves. The whole place was furnished to a truly high standard - I agree with the the previous reviewer about the bed - wow! The DVD library covers most tastes - with daughter, I watched Charade and hub watched About a Boy - perfect after a long drive from the Northlands.

I can't praise this accommodation highly enough. Miss it and you really will miss out.
