“"Outstanding Country Hideaway"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2014

What a perfect gem of a hideaway. It is immaculately presented and everything we thought it could be. Small attention to details were outstanding. The veiws and location are a perfect example of a beautiful New Zealand rural outlook.

Really, it feels like you live here forever. The food was deliciuous Delicious, home-made and perfectly presented. Small little details made our stay so much more enjoyable, the home-made chocolate macaroons were incredible, Evans complimentary home-made plum schnapps along with the complimentary port made for a very pleasant end to the evening.

Breakfast was again outstanding, and tasted beautiful.

I would recommend this country cottage to honeymooners, couples who want to get away, anybody looking for a perfect example for a rural slice New Zealand.

The hosts are open and generous, there if you need them while being very discrete.

My wife and I will be going back so at some stage, and we are locals.

Spending the night in the cottage was amazing! The grounds of the farm are the perfect setting for the beautiful cottage. The house was clean, modern and the perfect size, just as described on the website. Liz welcomed us the moment we arrived and cooked a fabulously delicious dinner and breakfast. We were especially grateful for Liz's hospitality as she provided us with directions to our next destination when our GPS malfunctioned and more importantly, she mailed an item we had forgotten to our next hotel right away. We could not have ask for anything more!!

We loved everything about this place, especially all the small details (some homemade cake waiting for us, homemade lemonade, lots of fresh flowers, umbrella etc.)...

Breakfast was one of the best part of our stay at Kamahi cottage. Elisabeth makes the best breakfast in New Zealand!

The cottage itself is very large, is very quiet. There is only you, no other tourists, just you and the sounds of nature, surrounded by beautiful scenery with lots of sheep, and an incredible garden.

There is everything you need in the kitchen to cook your own meals. Even a great selection of premium NZ wines to buy from your friendly hosts.

A great place for a typical kiwi experience in a lovely place, off the beaten track. Just wished we had stayed longer. A little paradise.

Room Tip: Don't make the same mistake as we did, and stay more than one night!!!

We spend 2 nights at this beautiful cottage with the most amazing view you can imagine. The cottage itself is very modern with attention to detail that matter. You can cook your own food, go out or get Liz to create you a tasty NZ style dinner. The breakfast is very jummy and Served in the main house just next to the cottage. You could have it also in the cottage but don't miss the opportunity to have a nice chat with Liz. She knows the area around very well and can recommend you great activities or restaurants worth to visit. We had a great time at the cottage and would definitively go again. Thank you Liz for your hospitality

From the moment of our arrival we knew that we had found a very special place. Elizabeth greeted us as she appeared from the beautiful gardens of her home that was adjacent to our little slice of heaven for the next two nights. The panoramic views provided a dramatic backdrop and could be admired from the porch of the cottage complete with hammock. Upon entering the cottage we were immediately impressed with the amenities that surrounded us. Slippers at the front door, gorgeous hardwood floors, complimentary stocked bar that included homemade schnapps, a well equipped kitchen area with a stocked refrig., all designed in a warm and beautifully decorated living area. Homemade treats were poised on the dining area table to welcome us and we indulged while reviewing the extensive area information provided for us in the cottage. Completing the first floor was a large bath area. Then on to the 2nd level only to find a truly romantic loft bedroom. It was one of those WOW moments.

Due to our arrival time we were not able to schedule dinner at the cottage the first night but did make plans for dinner the second night. We highly recommend this experience not only for the culinary pleasure but also for the enjoyment of fellowship with Elizabeth and Evan. We were blessed in getting to know them both; an incredibly warm, interesting and genuinely nice couple. Speaking of dinner, be sure to inquire about "Dinner at Rose's", a published novel by their daughter that is truly enjoyable reading.

Following a gourmet breakfast, Evan made time to take us on a tour of the farm. We're from Texas, but there are no farms like this at home. This experience was not only educational, with fantastic scenery, but many moments of humor filled the trip. Take advantage of this opportunity if given the chance. We had outlined several adventures while we were in this area of New Zealand but found staying at the farm, on the porch of our cottage, enjoying this very real experience was much better than anything we could have imagined or planned.

Our day was rounded out with a delicious roasted lamb dinner with well-paired New Zealand wine. Elizabeth is not only a wonderful hostess and conversationalist but an accomplished chef. The evening was truly enjoyable. Most special was the bagpipe serenade, by Evan, in the garden before we returned to our cottage for the evening.

Morning came too soon. Followed by another wonderful breakfast is was time to say "good-bye". Not an easy thing to do - what an incredible cottage, what extraordinary hosts, what a memorable time.

Nearby Waitomo Caves is the reason we were in the area. We chose Kamahi for the opportunity to stay on a farm with fresh air and space for the kids to run around after a busy week marinating in the adrenaline of Queenstown. However, the relaxation came more from the efforts of our hosts Liz and Evan, who were attentive to making our stay a pleasant one. The comfortable cottage and environs are kept with love and care, and the panoramic view over the lush fields to the distant hills is gorgeous from the hammocks on the deck. Liz is an exceptional cook, and seemed to effortlessly prepares range of delicious meals served to the cottage with perfect timing. We also had a very engaging and kid-friendly evening with our hosts in the big house. Finally, our hosts were spot-on with their recommendations for restaurants and attractions.

Kamahi cottage is located in the countryside near the Waitomo caves. Our hosts, Liz and Evan, are lifelong Kiwis and the cottage is located on their large family farm. The comfortable cottage includes a sitting room (with a sofa bed), small kitchen with dining area and bathroom on the first floor; the bedroom is upstairs. The view out of the french doors is amazing: the porch is edged with lavender and, because the property sits high on a hill, the whole gently rolling farming region is spread out before you. It is so peaceful and the large flower garden is full of birds. Liz is an avid gardener and had fresh flowers on the table and by the bed. She provided a very nice dinner and breakfast, both delivered to our cottage during our stay. We were sorry that our stay was a short one.
