Owner description: Our tours are friendly, informative and fun. With no more than 12 people on board, raft beneath many thousands of fabulous glowworms to see them at their very best. We visit private caves away from the regular, more commercial tours. Our caves are on a beautiful hill country farm and your guide is also your host, so expect a really enjoyable and memorable tour of our two magical caves.

“Spellbound is a magical tour”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

Our family group of seven visited Waitomo Caves for one night in the middle of winter. We needed an experience that was suitable for all ages but we're not really fans of the crowded tourist attractions. We chose Spellbound as they are a smaller group tour and we were not disappointed. We had another family of four in our group and that was the tour full. The tour guide, Norm, is a long time resident of Waitomo and spent his youth caving in the area so he was very knowledgeable about the area and a super friendly guy. We visited two caves, and went for a boat ride in one of them. When the lights were off, and we were all silent as we were floating along, it was like being in the centre of the universe. It was extremely good value. Thoroughly recommend Spellbound Tours.

“Fantastic trip”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

This trip was recommended to us as a better value option for seeing some of the beautiful caves and, of course, glowworms and it didn't disappoint. Even the 12km drive to the caves was really interesting as our excellent guide, Norm, told us about the area and the caves throughout the drive as well as keeping us entertained. The two caves were very different and being in small groups (just 7 in ours) it was great to be able to take our time. The trip lasted about 3 1/4 hours altogether and was a great way to spend our morning in Waitomo.

“Awesome trip”

Have been on a great tour in Waitomo before but this one took the cake! Norm (the guide) was so friendly and full of information! The 2 caves were very different so it was awesome to see the contrast. We had a group of 8 from 8years to 50 years and it catered for everyone! Beautifully set up and extremely well run - great value for money!

“Fantastic tour”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

Went on the morning tour and it was just the 3 of us and one other couple. The maximum they'll take is 12 people. First part is the glowworm cave where you glide in boat through the cave. At one point the guide stopped the boat so we would silently sit there and look at the galaxy of glowworms. It's a moment I'll never forget!! They also let us take pictures (unlike the other tours) and will e-mail you some of their pictures (for free) if yours did not turn out good. The second cave doesn't have glowworms but it does have beautiful limestone formations and a moa skeleton. In between caves you sit in the countryside and enjoy a hot drink and biscuits. You are not rushed and are not with big crowds. The guide was so good and knowledgeable.

“Spellbound were excellent”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

We stayed at the Top 10 in Waitomo and they recommended Spellbound above all the other companies. We had a fabulous trip. Norman, our guide, was friendly and very knowledgeable and the boat trip was magical. The tour was also less expensive than the others so in terms of value for money it was absolutely excellent. would thoroughly recommend this tour.
