Te Tiro
Reviewed October 20, 2009

My Husband and I loved Te Tiro. The hosts were extrememly friendly. The views were incredible. The accomodations were comfortable. The location was great, only a 10-15 drive to Waitomo Caves. The only down side was the fact that the bathroom was not attached to the bedroom and you needed to go outside to get to them.

We took the advice of other travelers on this site and were rewarded with possibly the best accommodations of our trip. The cabin is beautiful, the jams and spreads for breakfast were wonderful. The views amazing.

If your going to be in Waitomo this is where to stay!

Te Tiro is one of those magic places that you always hope you'll find. While there are only two cabins currently, this place is sure to do well and expand. The cabins enjoy an amazing view over the surrounding valley, and are within a short walk from Te Tiro's very own mini glow-worm grotto. The whole place oozes rustic romance and charm. It's hard to believe the cabins were built so recently, since they blend seamlessly into their environment. You'll actually want to wake up early just to watch the sunrise from the front porch while you enjoy a hot beverage and some of Rachel's amazing breakfast goodies. Rachel and the whole family really make the stay - as they go out of their way to make you feel at home. This is one of those places you just don't want to miss!

We walked through the whimsical gate to get to our cabin around 5pm. Rachel and Angus had left a nice note. The cabin was adorable with all the modern amenities as well. The cabins were modeled after playhouses, and it had a fairytale feel to it. Both cabins are one room with a Queen bed, kitchen table and kitchen area. There are 2 sleeping mats in the upper loft. The private bathroom is in a separate building a few steps away, and completely modern. The kitchen was stocked for the next day's breakfast. Chairs were on the deck for enjoying our beautiful valley and mountain view. Headlights were hanging on the back of the door to hike into their own glow worm grotto. Angus stopped by in the early evening and Rachel introduced us to their pets, Puck, Ratbag, Gimley and Izzie (dog, 2 cats and sheep). Our 3 year old loved the animals and talked about them for the rest of our month long adventure. Rachel gave us ideas about scenic hikes not to miss before heading out. Rachel and Angus seem to have thought of everything.

When we arrived at the cabin we immediately felt at home. To our regret we could only stay for one night. From the porch of the cabin you have a great view over the valley. Especially at nighttime this is breathtaking. The friendly owners are most accommodating. You have a lot of privacy. All in all a very nice B&B that we can highly recommend.

Te Tiro was our first place to stay in NZ and we certainly fall in love with this place in the very beginning. Living in the Te Tiro carbin was a great fun for us as we never got a chance to live in our OWN carbin in somewhere like Hong Kong. As we arrived at Te Tiro at night, we were astonished by the spectacular view from the carbin!

Beside the place, the host are also amazing! Rachel & Angus are super friendly and hospitable, don't miss the chance to have dinner with them and try out their baked chicken! Really yummy! If you happened to know how to play Mahjong, you really got to check out Angus's handmade wooden mahjong! It is awesome!

If you have time, don't forget ask Angus to take you to their beautiful garden. It is another MUST go site beside the small glow worms cave inside Te Trio.

We were glad that we picked this place and it really added a lot of color to our trip!

we stayed for two nights. 2 adults and one child.
The two cabins have a lot of character and look lovely.
Loft ladder for children which they will love.
Awesome hilltop location with an incredible view.
The hosts here are extremely friendly and accommodating. You wont find nicer. They took us on two farm trips and ensured a lamb was on site for us to feed. Our daughter had a great time playing with their two kids who are also very friendly and outgong.
This place is especially ideal for families but also very good for couples. We totally recommend this farmstay for a rich, personal experience.
