“Good place a stop over”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2009

Great B&B in a traditional style, all in good condition and the gardens were so green. Liked the friendly welcome and Colin's biscuits, we had a good view over the camp site too.
The rooms are a collection of buildings dug into a hill but work well in a unique way with the garden. No real road noise either, although birds nesting in the flower box were chirpy but charming over night.
Recommended.

Reasonably priced, especially considering the comfort and quality. Quiet, private and attractive, it's a very pleasant environment in a very convenient location. The hosts are really nice people, too! Colin and Janet were extremely helpful during our stay and afterward, going out of their way to assist us (even after checkout) in unexpected, extraordinary circumstances.

Pleasant experience, very nice hosts, would highly recommend. Colin & Janet were very knowledgeable and friendly and were happy to suggest hikes and caving expeditions etc. as well as book them for us.

Great place to stay. Rooms well appointed and clean. The hosts, Colin and Janet greeted us warmly, as did their dog, Gypsy. Breakfast was nice. Don't miss the restaurant across the street, Huhu. The B&B was centrally located to all the Waitomo caving activities.

If you're up for an "Indiana Jones" experience, try the full day Expedition with Absolute Adventure. That's the most fun and exciting trip we've ever done. Ever!

We stayed at the Waitomo Caves Guest Lodge a couple of weeks ago, and we were very impressed with what it had to offer. The rooms were comfortable, clean and our room had a great view.
Colin and his wife were so welcoming, they even provided us with a map of the local area, pointing out the places to eat and also the walks that we needed to do whilst in Waitomo. The breakfast was continental style in a lovely large dining room, there was definitely plenty to eat.
We were off to the Black Water Rafting that morning, and they offered us some towels to borrow, so that we didnt need to our own towels wet. The service was so great and I would recommend this place to anyone going to Waitomo.

One of the most memorable days of our trip! After a cruise with 5-star hotel stays at each end, we took a public bus from Auckland to Waitomo to see the caves. We chose the Waitomo Caves Guest Lodge because of its convenient location, but everything about it was memorable - wonderful hospitable hosts, unbelievable gardens, and a great view. The room was clean and comfortable and included homemade cookies! Janet even drove us to the Aranui Cave so we could do some hiking there. The village, visitor center, and Glowworm Caves are within easy walking distance, as is the pub, which has good, cheap pub grub (and a great opportunity for us 60-somethings to hang out with the backpackers!) By staying overnight, it's possible to do the Glowworm Cave tour either late or early, and avoid the masses who come on the day trips. They miss some of the best things Waitomo has to offer. We were very impressed with the Aranui Cave and the Ruakuri Natural Tunnel trail, which starts at the Aranui Cave parking lot. There are also blackwater rafting trips for those who are either younger or more adventurous.
