This place takes the award for character and family atmosphere. When we arrived the owners had just popped out for something but left us a note to let ourselves in, which we did. The cute cabins, perched up the hill on a network of paths and steps, are very comfortable with lovely views. The gardens are an inspiration and much of the produce for the excellent breakfasts comes from them. Janet and Colin were so helpful and gave us good advice about which trips to book and which caves to see. They also told us about other interesting places to go, such as a pa site nearby, Otorohanga kiwi house and other attractions. The only downside was carrying the luggage up the steps but it was worth it. We were also charmed by the sparrows' nest in our window box and the large sparrow family which kept us entertained outside our window. Very handy to the best restaurant and to the pub if you prefer it. Walking distance to everything in the village.
