We were so excited to stay at this hotel as the photos looked "amazing"
I even decided to pay more for the modern room as this was the last place we were going to stay on our trip. The physical address of the hotel was not very clear and therefore we ended up in another town as the address was as follows: School Access Road, Waitomo Waitomo, Waikato instead of: Access Road, Waitomo Village. The GPS was not tracking the address and after travelling so long we arrived at the hotel. After meeting the General Manager, I asked her to change the address and get GPS coordinates on the website to make it easier for foreigners (like myself) to find the hotel. She assured us that technology is not accurate !!! How do they expect us to get there if there directions and physical address are incorrect and all what we have to rely on is the GPS!

After having a delicious dinner and getting a complimentary bottle of wine from the hotel, we went to the hotel room and I was disgusted! The bed was not properly made up, it looked as if people had checked out the morning and no housekeeping was there to make the bed. The paint was pealing off the ceiling, there were patches of wall paper off the wall, no room directory (therefore not knowing how to call to the reception), no hand towels, and when I opened the fridge, there was a little water in a water bottle. I also booked a room with a bath and shower and only received a room with a shower. I was really upset and think that some sort of compensation should be made. The room we stayed in, should of been blocked off as maintanence and not booked for guests.

The next morning when I wanted to check out, the manager saw me, she greeted me and saw I was ready to check out (she was standing behind the desk). She then turned around and walked away. She knew I wanted to check out but she left the desk unmanned and I thought she would return but then I had to look for someone to check me out!

You drive up the driveway and the beautiful gardens unveil before you. The building is a beautiful stark White building amongst the greens and florals. Inside the staff are friendly and down to earth and happy to accommodate our every wish. We were able to choose a room that had the view we wanted. The rooms are elegant, antique but not musty or scummy. Everything is clean and fresh. The bed comfortable and the decor that anyone whom appreciates art deco would love. We are on honeymoon and this by far one of the nicest places we have stayed in.

Expensive room for old, beat up hotel. No screens, so plenty of bugs in room. Paint chipping and water stains everywhere. Manager said they have new owners and will be updating in 6 mos. They probably told folks that 5 yrs. ago! Manager was friendly but you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Very simple and "blah" continental breakfast

We stayed at this hotel for just one night whilst visiting the Waitomo Caves but were bitterly disappointed. It is simply past its use by date.
We stayed in what was supposedly a King Suite. The only good thing about the room was the comfort of the bed. The bathroom was the size of a normal separate toilet but included a tiny shower cubicle and a hand basin.
The included breakfast was also very poor and the crockery was old and crazed.
We recommend that you look for alternate accommodation.

We booked a night here with trepidation after reading the reviews. My heart sank as we drove into the drive & entered the reception. But the receptionist was friendly & helpful. Our room, with a double and single bed, was 1930's style and in need of a good refurbishment, but was clean as was the tiny en-suite shower room. We went down for evening meal feeling nervous but actually had a very good meal at a very reasonable price and we are pretty demanding where food is concerned. The breakfast was more basic. This could be a fantastic hotel with some investment but for one night was fine.

My wife and I stayed in the Turret Room at the Waitomo Caves Hotel for one night while on our honeymoon. I would describe this hotel as "quaint." We checked in and saw only the single clerk. Our room was on the third floor, up two steep flights of stairs. But once there, the room itself was very serviceable. It was large and had plenty of light. The bathroom was also large. However, the bed was not particularly comfortable and everything was outdated.

During our stay we saw only six other guests (two in the hallway, four at breakfast). We also only saw a single staff member at the front desk. The hotel was very quiet. Breakfast was included but was sparse, offering juice, cereal, toast, granola and canned fruit. The best part of the hotel was its proximity to the local attractions, including the Ruakuri Cave and the Waitomo Glowworm Cave; both were within 10 minutes drive. Also, I highly recommend the Huhu Cafe for either lunch or dinner, which was a 5 minute walk from of the hotel (we went for lunch and then went back for dinner because it was surprisingly great for being in the middle of nowhere). But back to the hotel, overall, it is a decent place to stay to visit the Waitomo Caves, but I don't recommend it as a destination to itself.

We booked into the hotel months in advance for a 2 night stay during our honeymoon, what a mistake that was! This was far worse than any backpackers we stayed at in the whole of NZ and this calls itself a hotel! We checked in and the check in woman said 'Your in Room 11 but i'll try and move you cos it's not a nice room, oh actually we're full so you'll have to go in room 11' - Great! The whole hotel is like the hotel from 'The Shining' and gives you the heeby jeebies even coming up the hill to it let alone inside, the room looked like it hadn't been touched since 1930, or cleaned since then either. After finding a variety of dead insects and an array of cobwebs in the room we decided to complain and check the hell out of there, we stayed at the Kiwipaka at the bottom of the hill in a double bed ensuite chalet that was fantasic! The hotel gave us most of the money back but held onto $50, it was worth losing the $50 not to stay there though! One word - Horrid.
