I stayed one night in a double room in autumn. Staff is correct. Bed and pillows were realy old and the blanket was not enough for the temperature. Wifi only in games room where it was freezing. Kitchen with limited crockery.

Me and my colleague stayed in one of the chalets whilst in Waitomo, the room was very spacious and clean, it even had a little patio and balcony area. The staff were helpful and provided all the facilities such as wifi, kitchen which we needed during our stay. There is a great bar very close by called Tomo Bar & Eatery with cheap beer, it was very cosy and had friendly locals and backpackers who were travelling through Waitomo for the glow worm caves experience. Would definitely recommend staying here especially if you are doing the caving experience as it is close by and they come and pick you up directly from the hostel. Thanks for a great stay Kiwi Paka, from Linzi @ Base :)

Rooms were clean & comfortable. Kitchen was a decent size & bathrooms clean. However the staff were so rude at check in that it would stop me recommending this place. We were travelling with kiwi experience & I appreciate that when checking in a large group it's easier to do a group talk. However, that group talk was incredibly patronising & did not make us feel welcome - it was as if we were children on a school trip rather than grown adults. I am aware that there are few Backpackers out there that let the side down by being mistrustful but I feel it's unfair to assume we will all behave like that.

Hi Victoria

Thanks for your feedback. Your advice is noted and I apologise if you felt that the group talk was patronising. We try our best to get through the Kiwi Experience check in as fast as possible, however we do not want to come across patronising or rude so we will address this with the staff.

Again I thank you for your feedback and hope you enjoyed your stay in Waitomo and the rest of New Zealand.

A nice hostel for a short stay.

Hired a private double with ensuite. The room was spacious and clean with bedding provided. No towels are provided.

Large rooms, plenty charging points but no secure storage or lockers.

Wi fi available in the reception area until 7pm. There is a pub at the bottom of the drive which serves food and has wi fi.

Food and drink can be purchased until the reception closes around 7pm.

Would stay again.

Really liked this hostel, rooms were big and clean, showers and toilets hot and tidy. Only stayed here 1 nights with the kiwi being able to pre book this hostel is defiantly recommend staying here with the group. Kiwi will also pick you up if your doing the glow worms caving from this hostel and it's only a few mins down the road. One of the points they could improve is the kitchen was quite big but next to no cooking equipment didn't even have a frying pan to cook with, other than that very good hostel
