Marakopa Falls are another short and accessible walk from the road, and the massive falls, plunging 35 metres, can be heard long before they are seen. Take a raincoat, as the spray travels for some distance after heavy rain. Well worth a visit.

There are several stops worth stopping for along the road, but if nothing else, I would recommend stopping here the falls are fantastic to see.

We happened to drive past the falls whilst the area was on flood. Such a worthwhile visit as it showed the true power of nature.
The falls were roaring as millions of liters of water cascaded down onto the rocks below.
The walk down to the falls is a sight to behold in itself.

If you are travelling to Waitomo caves, carry on the road for another 30 minutes. You will come across the car park and a little track that leads to this waterfall. It is only 5 minutes easy walk from the car park, but you will be astounded by the natural beauty of this waterfall. Quite possibly the nicest waterfall in the North Island. Once you have seen this waterfall, head down the road for another 5 minutes, and you will come across another car park. This is for the natural bridge. Complately different character - peaceful and serene. Definitely worth the detour and visit.
