Waitomo Adventures are in my top 2 tour operators in New Zealand and I've done five trips with them over the years. I can't recommend them highly enough - safe, friendly, good value and amazing fun.

This particular trip combines the glow worms, tubing (like floating under the Milky Way) and a great intro to a bit of caving too. My wife, who is scared of dark small spaces, had no issues at all and loved this trip too thanks to the helpful guide who helped us all through.

Don't think about it...just book it.

This must have been the best day of our holiday! Having two teenage boys (with a big taste for adventure) can be a challenge. Our guide was amazing, he showed them lots of little spots to squeeze through. They had the best time ever. The staff are friendly and helpful (even helped me to book a tour with the another company) the cave is breathtaking and well looked after! Thank you guys. You are the best!!!

All up, it was OK. But don't expect to ride the rapids through the caves or have a "canyoning" type of experience. Its just a cave tour where you do a couple of paddles on inner tubes and get wet. The other tours are cheaper and better value. I wouldn't recommend this particular tour.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry you didn't enjoy your trip with us.
We do clearly state on our website and brochures the definition of Black Water Rafting as follows -

' Blackwater Rafting – the definition
Blackwater rafting is definitely not Whitewater rafting under the ground.
The water is mostly quite calm, with only a few if any rapids.
On a scale of 1-10, Blackwater rapids typically rate about 1 or 2. '

We did two tours on the same day: TumuTumu Toobing and St. Benedict’s Cave. TumuTumu Toobing has the amazing glow worms, only to be found in New Zealand. Was even better in person than I had expected. It is a rigorous hike through the caves. You’ll need a swimsuit, which you will wear under their wet suit and rubber boots. You’ll also need a towel, soap and shampoo (for washing up in their showers after the trip). St. Benedict’s is a dry cave, which means no glow worms, but more comfortable climbing. If you like rappelling, zip lining and massive stalactites and stalagmites, this is the tour for you. We really enjoyed doing both tours. If we could only pick one, I chose TumuTumu, as the glow worms were amazing. My wife preferred St. Benedict’s as she loved the rappelling and the more beautiful stalactites. She also got cold in TumuTumu. They don't let you use a camera on any trips. They take overpriced pictures on a relatively low-quality camera.
