Description: HUHU Cafe offers visitors to Waitomo the opportunity to sample great New Zealand cuisine in a beautiful setting. We offer a delicious evening menu, perfect for enjoying with a cold one on the sunny deck after a hard day's caving or glow-worm spotting! You can enjoy delicious treats such as Caramelised Garlic & Goats Cheese Tart, Wild Rabbit Hotpot, Organic Rib-Eye, Dark Chocolate Souffle & Poached Tamarillos to name but a few (please note that our menu changes on a regular basis, depending on what we can source from our suppliers). Wherever possible, we use local providers - our lamb comes from farms around Te Kuiti, our cheese from Putaruru & our berries (when in season) are from Piopio. Our wine list consists of a number of great New Zealand wine varieties and our beer list features a selection of boutique beers to whet the whistle! Cosy up by our woodburner during the winter months or chill out on our deck over summer... Have we tempted your tastebuds? Well then, we look forward to seeing you at HUHU sometime soon!

“Excellent in every way”

A great venue alongside the cave complex. The menu is modest in size, but big on quality. The range is excellent, catering for many peoples tastes and requirements. Service is friendly efficient and attentive. The food freshly prepared takes a little while, but when it comes is excellent. All four of us were engrossed in the flavours created. And then the bill......come on guys I cannot believe I am saying this......charge a bit more!

“Very good.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2013

Great interesting food. Tasty. Different selection. Wonderful Rhubard crumble. Make sure you book!

Service a bit slow and not served on a first come first served basis.Nice view out the windows of the interesting building looking out over the distant hills, the sky and the tree tops.

$66 for two including main x 2, dessert shared between 2 and beer. I had the slow-Cooked Lamb Shoulder Rack with Harissa-Roasted Pumpkin, Kumara, Hummus & Coriander Yoghurt and my dh had the slow roasted chicken with char grilled asparagus. Good food at reasonable prices.

“Best food in NZ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2013

We went here after a recommendation from a tour guide in the caves. Eveyone said its a bit pricey but at $30 for the most expensive main course I didnt agree...the food was ridiculous easily the best I have had in NZ. The chefs infused asian style food with local dishes and everything was perfect. The musssels to start I would highly recommend as well as the lamb. The service was excellent and the atmosphere also. Anyone going to waitomo has to eat here

“Best dessert ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2013

I had the lamb shank and was delicious. Mrs had a pasta thing, she loved it to but the best thing we had was the dessert, peanut ice cream on a brownie with caramel and chocolate sauce. yum!
bit on the pricey side but worth, as the lamb was local and the atmosphere and beers where great.

“Excellent food and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2013 via mobile

The range of mains was good, from fish to chicken, pork, lamb, pasta and seafood. Nicely balanced.

We ordered the lamb rack shoulder with harissa-roasted kumara (sweet potatoes), red onion, hummus and a coriander yoghurt. The lamb was succulent and tender, could be pulled off from the bone. It combined really nicely with the kumara, which was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The yoghurt helped to provide a nice, fresh contrast to the richness of the other ingredients. All in all a solid dish!

We also ordered the pulled pork with apple, which was just as savoury and appetising. The pork was tender and could also be pulled off without much effort. The palate was on the sweet side. The accompanying vegetables were refreshing.

Service was warm, prompt and very nice. No complaints, highly recommended.
