As a first time visitor to the Caves Motor Inn, I had read other reviews. But what mattered most to me were the positive reviews from couples and/or solo travellers. And much like them, I found this place very clean and tidy. The room was quite spacious and the T.V and reception very good! The staff were very friendly and helpful and the meals were definitely generous and very nice indeed! Would definitely stay here again and recommend this place to others!

I often stay at the Caves Motor Inn. From the outside it is nothing special, situated on the main road between Otorohanga and Te Kuiti, and about 10 minutes from Waitomo Caves village. The staff are amazing, friendly and welcoming. Different styles of room configuations to suit most people from backpackers to family units. The rooms are great, beds are comfortable, bathrooms spotless and a nice touch with tea, coffee, kettle, toaster etc. Nice toiletries as well.
The meals are excellent - farmer size generous proportions with salad or veges included. You actually get more than you ordered - such a change from city size. Good bar and great selection of NZ beers.
Road noise may annoy some people - but you are staying on the main road. Its farmland so very quiet and dark apart from the odd truck or train. Yes, enjoy spotting the Southern Cross and other stars on a clear night.

Room Tip: Ask for a room furtherest from the road - the ones in the main building are right on the road fronta...

We stayed here two nights as part of our Waitomo Caves visit. Since we were there for the caves, we weren't looking for luxury, but were hoping for some rest, and the price at Caves Motor Inn couldn't be beat.

The beds were fine, but crammed a little tight for a family of 5. The common area in the room was good-sized, and the kitchen unit well-stocked and a welcome surprise. Internet only worked in the hotel lobby/lounge, which was annoying, but not the end of the world. I had to conduct business back in the States, and would have preferred not having to trek back and forth for a good connection.

The reports of noise are true: You'll get 18-wheelers and freight trains at all hours. But it is a Motor Inn, after all. I wasn't particularly bothered by the noise, perhaps because a long, happy day of climbing through caves with Green Glow Eco Adventures, I could have slept through just about anything.

This hotel is out of town, on a busy highway. Note that all rooms are noisy and you can hear trucks and trains throughout the night. Apart from this, the room itself (we booked a king) was clean and there was hot water and heating/aircon. We ate at the HuHu cafe in town which is very good.
Do yourself a favour and stay closer to the main attractions in town (caves, adventure companies etc) - for example Waitomo Top 10 Holiday Park

We didn't stay at the inn, but had dinner there one night while visiting the caves. Service was very friendly and food was surprisingly delicious with nice plating and all. We had the baked lamb, which was delicious, and caramel bread pudding. Highly recommend!

I had a mid week stay, over night, here at. Caves Motor Inn.
Easy check in,Staff are friendly and nice. I stayed in one of the back units due to the main road being so close, very little road noise,my unit was cosy and warm rather romantic in a since, for a winter stop. Tip for staying at hotels, camp site,Inns, friends places etc...( Hay .. :-).. If you can take your own pillow , it will give you a grate sleep when staying away from home). That i recommend..
Had a lovely meal at the restaurant and bar, "Yammy - Seafood Chowder"... :-)
I now know, if one needs a cut lunch for on the go, the Caves Motor Inn will do that for you,
now that`s cool..
Hay.. I do stay the winter here is not for shorts or T shirts, it can get cold, being Winter..
