“A good place to break the journey to Strahan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012

This is a good place to break the journey north to Strahan if you’re planning on a visit to the Mount Field National Park and the Russell Falls. It’s also a great walking area. Very comfortable accommodation where you can either self-cater or opt for the inclusive b&b and dinner option. We booked the dinner option and were very glad we did since there appeared to be no eating out options in the immediate area. Apart from which we had a lovely meal with plenty of choice, served in our own private dining area; so don’t bother to try and eat out.

Hamlet Downs is in a very rural setting with extensive grounds and numerous pools where we were lucky enough to spot platypus amongst the reeds. We had the ‘King Room Suite’ with its own private conservatory dining and lounge area and separate entrance. It had great views of the gardens and the surrounding grounds and ponds.

Peter and Sue were very hospitable hosts with some helpful suggestions for our onward journey. A very relaxing place which we can highly recommend.

Room Tip: King room suite with lovely garden views

Warm and cosy, beautiful gardens, your own butler. Close proximity to mount field. Additional rooms can be opened up depending on your requirements. Walks available in the gardens. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA+++++++++++++++++

We only stayed for one night in a King Room but were very impressed with the attention to detail and professionalism of our hosts. Our dinner and breakfast were served in the sun room overlooking the garden. Food was delicious and plentiful. A nice touch that you could purchase a bottle of wine and at a reasonable price.
This is a lovely place to stay and very interesting to read the history of the property and the oast houses in the area.

Room Tip: We liked the privacy of our king room with kitchen and sun lounge but we can't comment on the ot...

Stayed two nights in King room. Just wonderful. Fab room. fab views, spotlessly clean. Perfect hosts - unobtrusive but friendly and very informative, Attention to detail superb. Didn't see Platypus (but did see snake). Cat a bit aloof (Puss puss). Telescope for star spotting excellent. Food served in private conservatory made for a lovely eveinng. Two weeks holiday in Tassie and this was by far the best. Thankyou.

to stay at this lovely location deep in the Tasmanian countryside. Very welcoming hosts and lovely accommdation situated in a beautiful (vast) garden. We had a small apartment in which dinner and breakfast were served. We chose the Greek Feast dinner option which consisted of a superb starter of real Greek dishes. The main course was a little dissapointing (traditional roast) and for some strange reason if you choose the starter you can't have a desert. We were able to buy some lovely local wines to eat with our meal. Breakfast was magnificent and I would thoroughly recommend a stay in this great B and B.

We only stayed at the farm for one night, but fell in love with the place.
We rented the larger family accomodation (which is the center of the house) which features a brand new kitchen and a recently renovated bathroom.
The attention to detail is fantastic down to a detailed history of the property and location.
There is everything you could want, especially if you have children, with a dam, an orchard, cows, goats, chickens, lots of wine in the mini-bar, lots of movies and a huge TV.
If its raining, stay in, if its sunny head out... either way its all good. We didn't try the menu as we brought our own food and used the very well equipped kitchen, but looking at the menu I was very tempted to try out the local cooking!

And of course I could not write a review without mentioning the local cat Pusspuss, what a character! We fell in love with Pusspuss on first sight and enjoyed his regular visits.

Room Tip: Its all good!
