“Great Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2012

We were greated nicely on arrival, showed around the room and encouraged to take a look around the property. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of the place, coming and going as we pleased. We booked the degustation dinner in the restaurant for both nights. Received excellent & friendly service along with great food & a very good range of fabulous wines. You certainly don't leave hungry. Breakfast was also very nice with italian style hash browns and poached egg.
As with other reviews the only criticism I have is a lack of adequate heating in the rooms. I guess it is authentic italian style reminding me of the heating in some hotels in northern Italy. Overall a very enjoyable weekend would highly reccommend it and will consider going back with friends. I didnt see the cat but as an animal lover it wouldnt bother me having it around, anyway in Europe people take their dogs everywhere which is nice!!

Room Tip: If staying in the winter months take plenty of warm socks as the rooms tend to be on the cooler side...

The "excuse me are you lost?" look we recieved on arrival was an instant turn off. The room was cold on arrival and smelt damp and mouldy. The towels may be 900gsm but also smelt mouldy and stale. The spa was dirty and had hair in it. Cobwebs hung freely over the fancy italian artworks and under cupboards. And breakfast, with such an acclaimed chef you would expect more than cornflakes and museli. After the cat wandered into the restaurant we couldnt leave quick enough. Over priced, stale, unclean, trying 2 b something its not. Really turned off paying a little bit extra for something nice. Ruined our week away.

Beautiful location, great restaurant with excellent service and food, attractive and spacious rooms and a delightful host. What it needs to make it into a perfect week end retreat is a guest lounge. The only other criticism is a lack of heating and attention to detail in the bathroom

Stayed for a Thursday night on the way to Melbourne. Great degustation dinner, excellent breakfast, congenial host and staff, relaxed ambience and top accommodation and grounds. And on top of that you will fall in love with the cat, Fellini.

We have just had 2 nights at this amazing Villa! It is just like being in Italy right in the middle of rural Bright Victoria. We travelled down from Sydney on our motorbike and were excited about our visit as the restaurant at the Villa has a hat!

Colin our host greeted us and made sure we were comfortable and then left us alone to enjoy his villa and gardens....... The set dinner time and degustation meal is unbelievable starting with a duck and cherry bruschetta and 4 more courses to follow........ Fabulous atmosphere with Italian music playing, the fountains flowing as we enjoyed out pre dinner drink in the garden.

The accomodation is very well done with a sitting area outside with seperate entrance to the garden and a very comfy lounge area in our room. There was biscotti and coffee and a mini bar for those who needed it. The gardens are amazing, as is the fact that the grow all their own veggies and nuts etc and the hen house for fresh eggs......... Whilst the dinner was fabulous, the breakfasts were sensational...... We are wishing this getaway was a little closer to our own backyard in NSW

Room Tip: The room had a fabulous spa bath and is just a little way from Bright a busy commercial little town...

After a pleasant three and a half hour cruise up the Hume Highway from Melbourne, we motored along the flat lands of the Buckland Valley. Crossing Devil's Creek, we turned right into a hedge lined driveway. My lover and I breathed a sigh of relief as we parked under the shade and wandered into the welcoming world of Villa Gusto. The Villa is a homely and wonderfully appointed place which feels like it has been lifted out of Southern Italy which has landed in the Australian bush. Perfectly positioned to enjoy the view of Mt Buffalo, the gardens are neatly kept, the water feature bubbles away and the herb garden next to the chook pen mean that home grown produce is assured. Our room was so comfortable. Uncluttered and beautifully appointed with rustic style Italian furniture, a bed so inviting and a luxurious bathroom that is beyond 5 star. It was dinner time and under the apple tree we were provided with the start of a truly magnificent degustation of food and wine that was amazing. Once settled into the uncrowded and spacious dinning room, we were continuously surprised as one fabulous dish after another followed, accompanied by the most amazing wine from a list that must be one of if not the very best Italian wine list in Australia. The highlight was an unbelievable shellfish dish from the Amalfi coast, but it was all incredible. Breakfast next morning were delicious eggs from the lovely chooks. The hosts were charming and so friendly, there is nowhere else where you can stroll a garden, sit on comfortable couches, listen to Italian opera, eat well and rest with your lover in such hospitable accommodation. We left rested, refreshed and thankful for the wonderful experience. We are going there again....

Room Tip: All rooms a great, some have a view of the mountains some of the garden.
