Had a great weekend, we had a one bedroom spa villa with the best fireplace. Had a couples massage at the Spa which was really really good. Would not hesitate to recommend and would stay again.

Room Tip: Get a 1 Bedroom spa villa and ask for the top floor.

Our three night stay at Chateau Elan was amazing. Every single staff member we encountered (including those who just happened to be walking past) was warm and friendly, and as helpful as humanly possible. From parking our car to booking wine tours and spa treatments, the staff went above and beyond to make our stay perfect - Even providing a bag full of shampoo and conditioner samples when asked if they sold it!

We stayed in a Spa Suite, and it was beautiful. Modern and elegant and perfect for a romantic trip. The spa itself is amazing. Perfectly themed and calming - we particularly enjoyed the hydro lounge.

The food (provided by The Vintage) was beautiful, and very high quality, as was the room service. Breakfast (a buffet) was lovely, and of very high quality for a buffet breakfast.

My husband and I stayed here recently to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We stayed in a king spa suite which was beautiful. Nice and big, well laid out and very private and whisper quiet. The king bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on. Having left our two kids at home for the first time in 5 years we just wanted somewhere where we could sleep, drink and eat inbetween movies and cuddles so it suited our needs perfectly. The staff are all friendly and attentive, the breakfast was included in the room rate and was good. Ate both nights at The Grill restaurant and this was exceptional. We will be back for sure.

There is nothing wrong with this place if it was a 4 star and is was much cheaper. However, it is supposed to be 5 star and was not worth the money. It is very average.

The over priced breakfast was packets of cereal and pre-cooked food - hardly gourmet. No pancakes, just bacon and scrambled eggs - nothing special and at $25 you expect more. They said they could make me some pancakes but it would cost more, the coffee was more, everything was more...

Most of the staff were gathered in corners of the restaurant or hallways drinking coffee from paper cups. Obviously they paid the "more" and had time to pass.

We used the spa while we were there. My masseuse obviously had just a had a smoke and reeked of cigarettes. It was a weird massage, one like I've never had before (like she had made up the moves - like pulling on my toes - no joke!). I am not a smoker so I couldn't wait to get away from her stench... Again - $159 for toe pulling... seriously... you would expect them to at least know how to do a massage.

For the money I expected something gorgeous not just average.

Thank you for the valuable feedback.
We would have preferred to hear about the issue of the massage as soon as you left the spa, so that we could have addressed it immediately with the staff member concerned, as well as provided you with a complimentary treatment. The massage you selected does include the stretching of toes and fingers. We receive some extraordinary feedback from guests about the services offered at The Spa, and would have preferred to rectify your one-off experience.

The breakfast restaurant located in the golf clubhouse at The Vintage is privately owned and managed. Chateau Elan has passed your feedback onto the management of that restaurant for their attention and staff training.

We always prefer to receive feedback directly from guests, to ensure their stay is comfortable, as well as to assist us in improving our guest service

We have stayed in quite a few 5* resorts/golf clubs, we are not rich, but save for the occasional luxery...I cannot understand why any of these reviews could possibly be negative in any way towards this place. We found the one bedroom appartment to be well and truely lovely, just what we needed, clean and spacious, the fire was great and a welcome surprise for our anniversary weekend away. Yes, the pillows are the only thing that dissapointed in the bedroom. Other than that the bed was very comfortable. The air con needs to be turned off at night, as it is super noisy otherwise!
The STAFF are what did it for us, no-where else have we been where the staff are so polite and attentive! They could not have done more for us. Even opening TWO main doors for us, while we boarded our wine tour bus!! NOWHERE in a supposed 5* establishment in Australia will you get service like at the Chateau Elan. 10 thumbs up!! Makes spending all that hard earned, well saved money go to good use. THANK YOU!
The views from the rooms are great and wonderful first thing in the morning. Close to everything. The barman know all the great alternatives to go to eat/drink. Nice open (gas) fire. Great great food. Lovely basic breakfast, filling and plentiful buffet. Nice wine selection.

Perhaps it was the title of "Chateau" or their claim of "luxury 5star accomodation" but we went with very high expectations which was unfortunate as we felt a bit let down. In saying that, if it was described as a comfortable 4 or 4.5 star family destination, it would be far more accurate and most people would be happy with the offering.

The good points:
1 - great location near lots of the good stuff in the Hunter as well as being part of the Vintage golf course precinct, with lots on offer for families in particular (golf, swimming, playground, casual dining, lots of green open space etc)
2 - friendly staff
3 - the markets (apparently once a month) on the grass at the centre of the Vintage complex - lovely on Easter Sunday to have lovely fresh bread and some pies for brunch. There was a nice vibe with live music and lots of families.
4 - their booking email gave all the details for the best restaurants in the area and it was spot on - Robert and Muse were fantastic.
5 - good kitchenette in the King Spa room - full sized fridge, microwave, oven, hotplate, dishwasher and washer/dryer.

The not so good points:
1 - the rooms are pretty basic. All nice and modern, but cheap finishes. No wow factor
2 - there is no room service for breakfast - you have to have the buffet in the Club House which was pretty ordinary - all the pre-made hot food and packets of Kellogs cereal. We had room service for lunch and it was fairly bland - local diner type food.
3 - the TVs kept shutting off - annoying in the middle of movies
4 - the spa was nothing special - nice staff but generally ho-hum decor and overall experiece as it was very busy so felt a bit congested.
5 - both types of pillow in the room were overstuffed feather ones which we hate. When I rang to ask for another type, I was told that as they were busy all they had left were thin foam ones. Almost as bad. Also, the sheets were so crisp they made a LOT of noise - even turning over woke up the other person in the bed.
6 - papers aren't offered. After being told that we couldn't get one at 10am on the second morning, they did offer to order one for the next day, but I think this should be offered on arrival.

Overall - it was a pleasant place to stay and with a few tweaks would be even better. I wouldn't recommend for a romantic getaway, but it might be nice for a family which doesn't expect flash fittings or great room service.

Room Tip: Order a decent pillow and paper on arrival.

We stayed for two nights in Chateau Elan, spa King 153. Found the room very clean, comfortable and welcoming. The bed was actually one of the best we have slept in during our two -weeks trip to Australia. The room was a little distant from reception or the breakfast restaurant but parking is ample and one could drive 2mins from one to the other if required. We prefered walking on the grass in the sunshine and enjoy the view.

In conclusion, we are puzzled by the negative reviews. The only criticism we could make is regarding the pool, which is a little small. But we were told that a bigger one is in the offing when Chateau Elan goes through its next phase of expansion.
