“Please do no spit on the buffet!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

We decided to try the buffet dinner which came highly recommended. It was supposed to start at 20:30, but the food was only served at 21:15. When the buffet was ready with all the hot and cold dishes we were summoned to serve ourselves but before we could start the owner Ze Maria introduced himself first and then the cook and described the food, but he was speaking so close to the buffet table that I saw him spitting a couple of times in one of the dishes in front of him. We were starving at this point, but we kind of lost our appetite. The hot dishes got cold and the rest of the food was not very well prepared and the whole evening cost us close to 90 US$ per person.
The brazilian clientele seemed to enjoy the show and they assaulted the buffet table, but we were not impressed at all!!!

“The worst experience in the island”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

The Zé Maria restaurant was the worst experience me and my friends had at Noronha! We waited almost 2 hours to have our dishes served!! Poor service and no respect for costumers!

“Beautiful restaurant, delicious food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

We loved everything about the restaurant. We considered doing the "Festival of Seafood", but were told we would be happier ordering a la cart. Thank goodness we did. We were thrilled with our choices, and it was much more reasonably priced meals. They have a pizza bar where you choose your own toppings, which was a hit with the younger crowd.

“Paradise for food lovers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2013

If Noronha's waters are paradise for snorkelers and divers, then Zé Maria is paradise for food lovers. On Wednesdays and Saturdays there's a buffet dinner (all you can eat formula) in the pousada that you shouldn't miss, even though the price can put you off (152 reais per person plus drinks).
It takes some time to start (they will serve you an appetizer while waiting) but once it does, prepare for an avalanche of flavours, varying from sushi, sashimi, ceviche, fish tartar, grilled fish with diverse sauces (passion fruit, pepper, pineapple, etc), bobó, moqueca, paella and abundant side dishes. Before the buffet starts each dish is presented by Zé Maria (the pousada's owner) and his chefs.
Save some space for dessert, though it was for us less appealing than the main course options. They also provide coffee, tea and different liqueurs to accompany the dessert (included in the price).
We were surprised to see that it finished very quickly, there was even live music – customers have only one goal when going there: to eat until they burst and leave. There's no afterhours, no other expectations. If this is your thing, then you'll have a night to remember for the rest of your life!
