Pousada Solar dos Ventos
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 2, 2012

We just spent one week at Solar dos Ventos and we paid a lot of money ( 2600 dollars) for a bungalow that did not even have a sea view and was very dark inside. Although we complained the first day at the reception, nothing was done about it . The staff was nice and smiling but did not speak english properly and did not give us the useful information about the island. In one week we never met the hotel manager, all they are interested in is your money . The island in general is very expensive, you pay a tax ( 250$ ) on your arrival at the airport and then another tax (150$) for the marine park just to be able to go on the beaches and on some of them you need a guide ! Take a lot of cash with you!!!

Room Tip: If they give you room number 7 ,scream and leave....No infrastructure at all, no swimming pool no f...

I paid more than 350 euros to stay athis place which is the equivalent to a 4 stars in europe or in the states .
First noboday was waiting for me at the airport ,there was some kind of misunderstood about the date of my arrival ,second i rent a buggy from the pousada which broke down every 2 days ,i stayed 2 hours on the side of the roas before somebody came .
One morning i asked for some eggs ,they told that there wasn t any eggs at the supermarket in the morning !!!
The rooms were ok but nothing exeptionnal.
The main draw was that the pousada is far from everything so if you dont have buggy ,you are stock on the other side of the island ,no restaurant and the one next door is absurdly expensive .

Just to say or take the top one ze maria or maravilha or just say at a cheaper pousada ,it s not worth it to stay at pousada solar dos ventos.

Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay there again--if we ever make it back to FdN! Everything in FdN is expensive so just prepare yourself. This B&B tries very hard to deliver 5-star treatment. It doesn't quite get there, but it compensates by having the most beautiful view in the whole island. The cottages all have their own verandas with hammocks overlooking the Sueste Bay. Our best memory of our whole trip was waking up early and getting to the bay as soon as the beach opened (8 am). We had rented snorkeling equipment in the village and then picked up a life vest at the beach for a 5 reais rental charge. We snorkeled without a guide and were the only people in the water. We saw 14 giant sea turtles! It was simply amazing! Praia do Leão is also within walking distance of the pousada and is one of the most spectacular beaches on earth! (not for swimming, but for its sheer beauty)

A couple of tips: On your last day, be sure to let the staff know if you intend to come back for a nap or a snooze in the hammock because the cleaning folks were far too efficient and had stripped our bed and removed our hammocks by 930 am while we were snorkeling even though we had late check out! We also don't recommend dinner at the pousada. Very disappointing meal with overcooked tough fish and an over-fried and breaded fish strip appetizer as well. Breakfast was much better--and included in the rate. Note: You have to pay for the bottled water at breakfast. Considering the rate, that seemed cheap of them... The fresh juices are free. Oh, and the "queen bed" was actually two twins pulled together with a queen size mattress pad. Not the best night's sleep for that reason--though quiet, for sure.

We were here for our honey moon, and we really enjojed the place. From the start we understud that we were in the right place, when Roberto came to pick us up at the airport, nice friendly, at the reception there is a girl called Maite wich is so nice and friendly and also with a very good touch of umor. The place is very romantic the bungalow has sea view, and the price is good for fernando.

Stayed there 4 nights in bungalow 7. The place is really nice, amazing view. One of the 2 pousadas with a sea view. The pousada is right next to pousada Maravilha, facing the praia do sueste (I really recommend to dive there, you can see turtle and many more animals just snorkeling, amazing).
The staff is really good, always tries to make your stay as nice as possible. The bungalow is simple but comfortable with a good air conditionning system.
I would suggest to ask for the bungalows 7,8 or 9 wich are the nicest as the seaview is really good (I guess #9 is the best).
The restaurant is really good, delicious food (eat the fish of the island), good service for a reasonnable price. You can also try the restaurant of the pousada Maravilha.
I know that the price of the stay isn't cheap but considering the place and the level of comfort, if you can afford it, I guess it's worth it.
Other tips:
-Buggy: I recommend renting one. There is a bus service but sometimes the access to the beach is really long to walk.
-Beachs: For a nice sunset, go to praia do Boldro, amazing view
-To make nice pictures from the plane when arriving, seat on the left side of the plane.
