Izamal is not a very big town, so it might not be a big asset, but we enjoyed walking in Izamal with its nice streets with yellow-coloured (colonial) buildings, the innercity Mayan temples and the church. Hotel Itzamaltun was right in the middle, everything on walking distance, but still a peaceful place with a garden and a (tiny) pool.

The rooms are mediocre: the bed, shower and airco are all practical. That's it. Breakfast is simply tasteless and the staff language skills are limited to Spanish (didn't test Yucatec)

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. We arrived about 7PM and we looked at the price and it was over our budget. We walked out but we were convinced to stay there. We were given 300 pesos discount off the normal rate of the room. So the next day we also got a discount on the service. It is supposed to be a boutique hotel but nobody came to clean the room, nor the bathroom, to fill up toilet paper, to take rubbish out, etc. It is a beautiful place located in a dense garden but if you stay here, take insect repellent, There are a lot of mosquitos in the room.

We found this hotel by chance-it's on the main road-but don't judge it by its appearance. There's a fabulous garden setting behind the unprepossessing facade. The rooms are located in this garden setting. There's a bar and pool which looked nice, but weren't open when we were there (low season). Many opportunities for massage etc-but we didn't try any of them.
