AS mentioned in other reviews, there is not a lot of choice of restaurants in Izamal...Kinich probably being the only one in town....If not, it is certainly the largest, as it endlessly hosts tour groups that come to visit the town. So you're forewarned if you decide to eat there. You're most likely to share the restaurant with hundreds of more or less interested and interesting tourists! Nevertheless, the restaurant itself, a huge palapa under which are the tables and chairs, tries to be as authentic as it can...Whether it succeeds or not is debatable however. Certainly, the waitresses are dressed in typical Yucatecan dress (huipiles) and yes, the tortillas are hand made and cooked on an open fire in the front part of the restaurant...(and they're delicious!) and yes, the menu suggests some unique choices, such as 'venado', which is actually shredded deer meat, marinated in sour orange juice and cooked in banana leaves, then served cold with radishes, onions and coriander. For such a large restaurant, service was excellent and the food more than adequate. Though not inexpensive, we felt the prices to be reasonable.

This restaurant is a nice place to stop for lunch, breezy and cool, friendly service, good food. It seems to also be pretty much the ONLY option for lunch in charming but sleepy Izamal. I have been here three times now (in 2008, 2009 and 2014) and have enjoyed each of my visits. Its touristy of course but then that is to be expected in the only real restaurant in Izamal.

What stands out in this place is the setting. The tables are laid out in a shaded garden-like environment, very pleasant. The food is made from fresh ingredients - you can see them prepare red salsa in the traditional way. It's a very relaxing place, with good food (not outstanding, but fine).

We visited this restaurant as per recommended by most guides. The place is big and has a nice entrance but the interior is quite different, a huge ´palapa´ with traditional chairs. The menu offer some local dishes but in our opinion the quality of the food isn´t worth the price tag. I have the specialty ´queso relleno´and I was quite dissapointed with my choice. My wife had a ´poc chuc´that was tasty but a bit small for our appetite. Most dishes are over $10 so is not a cheap place. The restaurant seem to score well with tourist guides but most people in Izamal do not recommend going there.

Huge palapa covered area, many tour groups, no intimacy. Food was just okay, though it was nice to get hand made tortillas. I kept flashing back to a tour I was on once (never again) where bored, disgruntled people and their cranky preteens were shuttled around by patient tour guides. There was the usual credit card mixup at the front desk, and tour group members headed for the banos and back. It was difficult for us to get served and get the bill, as understandably, the major effort needed to be invested in the large groups. There is a nice little place on the main square that serves a decent though simple lunch. I strongly recommend you go there, unless you are part of a tour and have no choice.
