“Paradise”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

Just returned from 11 nights in this hotel and it was luxurious, clean, quiet, efficient and basically paradise! I have stayed at Mwambi before and would rate this place higher. We booked a junior suit and were originally given a room with no balcony - after speaking to the friendly staff they happily swapped us the next day to a fab room with a balcony. The location is perfect - right on the beach, 10 second walk down to the sea. The pool is cute too but we tended to stay on the beach as the pool seemed to be in the shade. There is a pool bar and one restaurant - the food selection is ok, there were always a couple of fresh meat / fish options that the chef would cook for you in front of you and there was also always salad, nachos, fries, rice etc available. We went all inclusive and although we're not big eaters its definitely worth it for free cocktails all day!!

The villas are made up of 3 levels - the top level does not have any outdoor space, the ground floor has a terrace but its not very private so I'd recommend a middle floor as it has a balcony. However one downside is that if you have heavy footed people above you may get woken up when they start walking around as we did!!

The only criticism of this hotel is that there isn't really a good area to hang out in the evening - there is the lobby which has a bar and free Wifi, or there is the restaurant. This hotel would really benefit from a cool beach bar area to sit and chill in the evening - we tended to walk 5 mins down the road to Mwambi for drinks in the evening.

This was my second time to Holbox and i will definitely be going back. Holbox is a quiet, not commercial or touristy at all. There are no high rise hotels, no 18-30 groups and that is exactly why I love it!

Room Tip: Ask for outside space, middle level with a balcony or ground floor as they have a terrace and hammoc...

This was a special trip to celebrate with my husband on a milestone birthday. Once on the Island the full glory of the ocean is difficult to ignore, I was thrilled with the hotel. Smiling faces and a lovely reception to greet us at the door. Nothing gets left behind in planning it's a perfect holiday here the people are sweet and generous and I loved the little flowers and candles around the room. The important bits were just as good, a deep mattress, spotless housekeeping and fabulous cocktails. We did a bit of exploring but we were drawn back to the lazy comfort of the hotel much too easily. Waited on hand and foot we thank the kind people here for making our trip a special one.

We stayed here for the last 4 days of our honeymoon and it was a real treat. The palapas reception area is an awesome entrance to this tastefully laid out hotel. Breakfast was varied and delicious every day. Staff were all friendly and helpful and the room was spotless. Our only criticisms would be that some more care could be taken of the beach area to bring it up to the standards of some of the other hotels along this strip and please play some different music in the public areas, it is really terrible!

Room Tip: We had room 500 which seemed to have the best unobstructed view although it was next to the "ro...

Lovely hotel - the beach wasn't so nice due to low tide. There were a lot of seaweed and it looks bad and also smells bad. The beach was coverd it during the hole week. Customers, which stayed there two weeks, told us that the beach was great during the second week. That´s because the rising tide flushed the seaweed back into the sea.

The staff was great - very polite and helpful. The grounds were nice and the rooms also. I would go back there some day.

The views as soon as you leave the airport are simply stunning ! Golf buggies are the way to go here, love it. The cute hotel stands on the edge of the sand and the welcome we got was warm and generous. Huge room with clean lines, comfortable beds, all good.
The restaurant is a great experience we were served different choices every night each dish very tasty. You cannot fail to become relaxed here, I felt the stress melt away with every hour spent on this beautiful Island. The perfect place to do nothing and just be at one with nature. This is up there in the best weeks of my life.

This is the place to be for a relaxing vacation and while I admit that I was not entirely sure about going to Mexico, this resort was everything we could ever ask for. The hotel itself is simply amazing. Often island beach hotels tend to get a bit worn round the edges from the elements, but here it is impeccable from top to bottom. Wood and big open spaces make for a beautiful hotel. Staff are great and the food is really up there with top restaurants. We are really considering a second round in Villas Paraiso and Holbox. We enjoyed it so much that we have even thought of retiring there one day.

Althoiugh it took many hours - 10 on the plane - 2 getting through airport - 2 on the transfer by taxi - 35 mins on the ferry - 15 mins on a golf cart - the welcome when we reached the hotel was friendly calm and laid back. The only thing not laid back was me . . as we arrived at dusk I was eaten alive by the mosquitos while just checking in. Would recommend taking repellent with you in case you are delayed as the bites stayed with me - with many others added - throughout our holiday!

Our room was fairly large and airy, bed quite comfy, although pillows a little lumpy, windows not totally sealed so bugs could still get in through the night, but we had our electic mosquito thing with us so were relatively safe! Air coin very noisy so tried to just use the fan during the night.

Shower fairly basic, and worked well enough, but not a lot of pressure. Plenty of shower gel shampoo conditioner in dipsensers on the shower wall. Noise from the upstairs room was quite loud at times due to wooden ceilings and floors. The upstairs visitors seemed to like to move furniture around late at night when we were asleep!.

But apart from the room, which we were in for a only a limited time while we were awake, we had a lovely totally realxed time.

The scenery is beautiful, totally unspoilt. Hire a buggy and see as much as you can of the island, wildlife and scenery is totally stunning, with a picture postcard scene at every turn of your head! The main road going past the hotel, which you have to cross to the beach, is very dangerous in rush hour - i joke - you might be able to see a couple of golf carts on it at at a time for as far as the eye can see . . Crossing it to get into the sea was about the only exercise we got!

The hotel pool is not over large, but it serves its purpose to cool you off while you sip your cocktail from the pool bar. The only difficulty is choosing which cocktail to have!

The staff are really lovely, although my spanish is practically none existant, luckily between that and mime we manged to get by in the restaurant with the staff on duty who were all very very friendly, always greeting us with a lovely smile never what time of the day.

My only real bug was the food. Although lovely when freshly cooked, steak fish chicken etc, the buffet food tended to be 'just warm' and very 'samey'. Tepid chips, tepid rice, tepid baked potao etc, and not a lot of mexican food on offer, in fact the mexican night was a bit of a let down food wise. We were there in low season so maybe there would be more variety when busier. Lunch and dinner seemed to blend together with little variety between the 2. Although you could get burgers hot dogs nachos etc at the pool bar, you couldn't get food there when the restaurant was open, so you had to eat really early or really late there. As we were all inc we ate all our food in the restaurant, as couldn't wait till the lunch had finished.

All in all a lovely laid back holiday. I don't think even for us (Lounger lizards) there would be enough to do there for 2 weeks, we only stayed for one.

Holbox is certainly worth a visit before it becomes other than it is now. Although until the big chains get there I don't think it will grow much more as many of the small businesses are closed or are closing or are for sale as there are not enough tourists to keep them going which is a shame as the local people and store owners are lovely and friendly with no hard sell when you look in their shops that you tend to get in the larger resorts in Mexico.

Room Tip: all rooms are the same really, not a seaview from any of them due to the tropical plants that now su...
