I have stayed at this hotel numerous times, and have always found it to be a wonderful experience. It has become my "home" on Isla Holbox. The location, right on the white sand beach, and only a few blocks from the central square makes it the most convenient hotel on the island. The staff are always very friendly, and helpful, quick to respond should any problems arise. The rooms are clean, with adequate space, a balcony--and the newly renovated bathrooms are lovely. The beach is well kept, with comfortable chaise lounge chairs and hammocks. An all around excellent, quiet, beach vacation spot. On this trip I traveled with four family members who were on Holbox for the first time. All of them can't wait to return to the island, and to this hotel.

Beautiful and artistic. Staff and management are exceptional. Food was the best we've had here. Weather is unpredictable, so remain flexible and love whatever mother nature gifts you. We highly recommend this motel. Jim and Glenda, Tucson AZ.

We got to the island after dark and took a golf buggy from the port to the hotel at the other end of the main Holbox road. Arriving at Amaite we received a warm welcome from Eduardo and his colleagues and were offered some refreshing juices. He showed us to our upstairs room (no 2) with a/c, a little balcony a few metres from the sea and charming rustic decor.

When we woke up, we saw that there had been a recent storm on the island (two weeks earlier we were later told ), that had dredged up a vast quantity of brown seaweed onto the otherwise fine white sand beach. This was a bit disappointing, although we were still able to sunbathe on the part of the beach nearer the hotel when the weather allowed.  This also explained the very strong rotting smell that we woke up to in the middle of the night - amongst the seaweed, pools of foaming seawater had collected that smelt pretty awful.

The hotel staff were very slowly clearing the seaweed - but there was a lot of it, and it was all along the beach - every hotel had the same problem. only a few seemed to be actively doing anything about it - but as we were told, they hoped another storm (predicted while we were there) would take the seaweed back out to sea again...

Indeed, unfortunately, three of our five days were cloudy, windy and not warm enough for sunbathing, although the other two were baking hot with beautiful blue skies.

So clearly the weather had not been kind to us - but despite all this, and a few nasty mosquito bites, the island is unquestionably beautiful, hotel breakfast of fresh fruit and delicious seeded toast was great, the hotel was perfectly comfortable and the staff happy to help. For the price we paid, it would seem hard to ask for a whole lot more.

The relaxed vibe of the island was just great. If you need a full service hotel with vast buffets and hundreds of rooms (and guests) you won't be coming here anyway. Local people were still doing their own thing (arriving as we did a few weeks before the late December rush, the island by no means felt overrun with tourists and even felt empty at times). We would certainly recommend Holbox and Amaite hotel in particular.

As a big fan of Mexico we chose Holbox to do something different to our usual Cancun and found the island very boring with not much to do but a few restaurants that all closed early and a lot of mosquitos. The hotel does not provide any entertainment although anything we wanted to do, no matter how small, was expensive. I am sure there are a lot of people that look for the sea, sand and sun but keep in mind the mosquitos and lack of entertainment.

Hola, Thanks for writie a comment for our hotel, all the comments make us improved in all our services, and about your comment i don´t think that the hotel deserves that qualification because of the mosquitos in the island, cause you are talking about the island, not from the hotel, you mentioned about the entertainment we have cards, and another table games, in case our guests ask for them,
All the rates in our rooms are similar to the other hotels, and we don´t have expensives rates,if you have a look to others comments from another guests they make good comments about the hotel, and our service, what we do best.
I think despite of the mosquitoes you had a good experience in the island and our hotel.
Best regards.
Eduardo Pacheco.

My friends visited this hotel recently and were blown away by the beauty of the island, the charm of the staff and the relaxed elegance of the property itself. You get what it says on the tin. They found it very relaxing but they noticed that no one was bored as there is plenty to do if that is what you want. Lots of beautiful healthy fish to eat - who could ask for more!

They raved so much about it that my partner and myself are booked for next year. We can't wait to sit on our little palapa balcony with cocktail in hand, listening to the waves washing onto the shore and watching the beautiful sunset!

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea and the balconies are private with dividing walls. Suites are on the ground f...

I've been at the Amaitè hotel last June for a wonderful holiday with my girlfriend. Holbox Island is a little paradise and the hotel is just a few meters from the ocean with a stunning view especially during the sunset.
The beach in front of the hotel is cleaned and tidy up everyday, our room was clean and beautiful, very spot on.
All the staff is very friendly and helpful, they organize for you different excursions where we saw whale sharks, dolphins, mantas, turtles,...
It's a special place for a special holiday.
