This was our first stop after getting off the ferry, and we were so hot and somewhat perplexed on where to go. So we stopped here to get a drink. Electricity was off, so no frozen pinas, so settled for a rum punch, had 2 and then we did not have a care in the world. Staff was nice and pointed us in the right direction. Went back several times, good music at night. Beautiful frescoes painted on the walls.

Very warm welcome here, had an excellent seafood plater. Really nice atmosphere, live music. Particularly enjoyed the service from our waiter (can't remember his name but his nickname, I overheard him say, is the Mexican for 'shorty'), funny, warm and attentive. Gracias Senior. Nice bar area too.

Very lively bar/restaurant. We went twice. Once for a late meal, and once just for drinks at the front bar lounge area (very comfy!) . There was live music both times, nice, but not very good talent. lol. Service was great, our meals were average but nothing wrong with them. They just were not ver memorable. Definitely would put it on my radar to return to the bar to hang out and have another drink.

I was so surprised to read the following review. It is the most accurate review since we responded in December 2013...and the review no longer is on this site. Please read and take to heart.

"For our last supper we decided to go to Viva Zapata as we had read some good reviews.
F ood was decent but the waiters got greedy and did some double billing. We paid our bill, left a sustantial tip and most of our party returned to our hotel. Two of our group stayed for one more drink. The waiter then approached them and said we owed an additional large amount of money. although the drinks were "half price" according to the bartender and our original bill, the waiter requested and took cash from our two members of the group to pay 8.00 additional USD on every drink that our group had.

Because of this incident, I strongly recommend you go to one of the many other restaurants on the ocean, in the town that are prepared to give you good food, good service and not scam you.
Holbox is a beautiful town, and there were many very nice people we interacted with in our short stay.
Beware of the scammers in the restaurant Viva Zapata and you will likely have an enjoyable stay. "

We are currently looking into what exactly happened here. In ten years of striving to run an honest business, we have never given any staff member the OK to offer any sort of discount- but try to offer fair prices on both drinks and menu items instead of promotions. We sincerely apologize for your experience with us and do hope to find out who misrepresented us on this occasion.

This is a very good restaurant. there were six of us and all were very pleased with our meals and service. i ordered the rib eye medium, when it came out it was still very rare. our server took care of the problem at once. all the other meals were great.
