Hotel Casa Barbara was a nice, sleepy hotel that adequately met our needs.
It does have a nice pool, although the mosquitoes were a bit of a problem.
Nicely landscaped and enclosed. Appears better suited to families with smaller children.
We would have preferred at least a limited bar.
It is located just North of the ferry. It is easy to walk anywhere on Holbox island.
Overall, good experience.

Hotel Casa Barbara is a nicely landscaped hotel, tucked away in a quiet area of the town. It's only a short walk to the beach, and restaurants are right out the front door. But the difference in price between Casa Barbara and the beachfront hotels make this well worth a second look. Large, clean rooms, nice pool, and pleasant staff.

I stayed there for 4 nights and I loved it , the pool is so nice I really enjoyed, the rooms are nice, the bathrooms maybe a little too small, the gardens and the hamacas so nice to sit and relax and the Hotel is in a good location close to the Ferry and restaurants.

We stayed for 4 nights around spring break time. We met some wonderful people enjoying the pool and grounds. This hotel could be much better but I'm sure that would also raise the very reasonable price. I could say a few bad things but we really did get our moneys worth. Our room was upstairs with a king bed and bath. No place to sit unless on the bed. I noticed in the rear down that they had some rooms with very nice porches. A guy staying in one said they had 2 double beds. I would have taken one if they would have had one available because I like to sit outside. It's a few blocks the beach but on Holbox you aren't going to hear any waves crashing even if you sit next to the water so what does it matter. It's a 2-3 star hotel that you will more than likely enjoy if you aren't to picky. I would stay again. The pool is wonderful but I did hurt my toe on the steps. It's easy to forget the steps are there.

We spent 5 days at Holbox Island and Casa Barbara in February 2013 and we had a very good time. The hotel is located close to the town centre and some of the nices beaches on the island and the service level is good. The pool area could need an upgrade, and it would have been nice to have a refrigerator and a safe box in the room.
One of the best things about Holbox is that you can walk around the island without any shoes, because almost all the streets only consists of sand and the atmosphere is very laid back

We spent three wonderful days in Casa Barbara and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. We were in room six, just up the stairs overlooking the pool. The room was spacious, clean and beautifully designed using local wood and palapa style roofing - making it feel very rustic and authentic. The gardens are gorgeous, as is the pool, and its really convenient that they have toilets just next to the pool. There are hammocks and plenty of sunbeds to relax on during the day. The staff were always happy to help and accommodating. The restaurant wasn't open during our stay, so we didn't get chance to try that, but the menu looked good. Casa Barbara is not on the beach, but you can walk there in 10 minutes and it's a 5-minute walk to the ferry. The prices are very fair. I would not recommend that you rent bikes from the hotel. They don't have many, and the one I rented was horrible to ride. My friends had rented from another agency near the main plaza and couldn't believe how horrible my bike was (really tough to ride). DO rent bikes though. One of the things I didn't like about the island were the noisy golf carts everywhere. Protect the environment and tranquility of Holbox!

This is the place to go if you don't want to spend 1500+ pesos at a beautiful palapa hotel with views and refreshing sea breeze. Good for a few nights if you are only in Holbox for the whale shark thing. For a longer visit, a place with good resting exterior places and less mosquitos would be better.

The rooms are good. They have AC and the beds are comfortable. Our room didn't have much water in the shower nor hot water... Wifi didn't reach our room, so we had to go near the reception which was full of mosquitos day and night.

There is a restaurant in the hotel that only serves breakfast, but it is independent and quite expensive for mexican standards. Their specialty are lebanese eggs which are served in a very small portion and their coffee is quite bad. The host is an overly attentive woman that shouts all the time and does some bizarre things such as breaking the arab bread over your head...

Next time we visit the island we'll try somewhere else.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the reception have better wifi
