Great home-made food, her specialty is the seafood soup (sopa de mariscos), which was outstanding.
Service was excellent, the owner - cook - waitress was adorable, and *very* serviable.
And all of the was at an excellent value

“Memorable culinary experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2012

We stayed in Holbox for one marvelous week Aug 20-26, 2012, and ate at Zarabanda every single dinner. If you happen to be lucky enough to land on this corner of paradise, you cannot miss eating fish at Zarabanda. It is by far THE BEST RESTAURANT on the island. The chef, Leo, is a true gentleman from Veracruz, a city that is world famous for the production and the gastronomy of fish. He wears a chef's attire, introduces himself at the beginning of your meal, and guides you through the day's special catch. We started with ordering from the menu and ended by having him decide what to serve us! In six days, we had the leisure of sampling his vast repertoire and were not let down once. His seafood soup is an absolute delight. This is a dish, he told us, that carries his French grandmother's touch. The octopus Veracruz style is also marvelous but what is truly exquisite are the ceviches. We had mixed ceviche and conch ceviche, a symphony of flavors that carries the texture and the perfumes of the warm turquoise oceans that surround Holbox, which is at the very border between the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, two very different bodies of water, with different colors, different cultures, and different fish! Leo is a virtuoso at cooking conch, which can be hard and gummy if not cut and marinated to perfection. If you don't feel like eating ceviche, he can cook it for you in a garlic sauce sliced in filets and accompanied by Mexican rice. On different evenings he cooked for us red snapper in a sauce of tomatoes, peppers, onions, and other secret delicacies, a mixed seafood extravaganza with potatoes wrapped in aluminum foil, and, as a farewell treat, crabs in garlic sauce, which crowned a week of spectacular samplings at Zarabanda’s. His sister Violeta, who is a lovely human being, as well as his 12-year-old nephew, Guillermo, helped Leo both in the kitchen and with serving at the tables, adding a family touch to our dining experience. The decor isn't fancy but you will enjoy the authenticity of a place that embodies the riches of Mexican cuisine. Zarabanda will open a window onto a whole new culinary panorama, one that will make you fall in love with Planet Mexico, well beyond the classic tourist experience.

“friendly people”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2012

Leo, the owner/chef of this little restaurant near the city square seemed genuinely happy that we chose to have dinner there. The decor was pleasant; the dining room very clean; service was extraordinary (Leo's wife I believe); and the fresh, local seafood was expertly prepared as ordered. Prices were good (very reasonable) too.
