We stayed at Hotel La Palapa in August for one week. It was a great place and I highly recommend it. We were there with our 3 daughters, ages 6,3, and 1. The hotel and restaurant staff were friendly to our kids. Every morning our kids wanted to go visit the lobby to chat with the receptionists. The beach in front of the hotel was perfect for kids, shallow, clean and calm. The food and service were great, the restaurant atmosphere, open air, right on the beach was wonderful. The hotel is very close to the town center, a few minutes walk.We went almost every night to get ice cream and play some games at the small nightly town carnival.

We stayed at the La Palapa and we really can recommend the place, if you stay on Holbox. The beach in front of the Hotel, is the best on the island and the hotel is really neat and clean. The service is very good and the rooms are nice and clean. We stayed on the first floor, which is recommended if you want to have more privacy. The only thing I would do different is, to refrain from getting a rate including breakfast. What you will get is a "continental breakfast", which is coffee/tea some toast and some artificial orange juice. Get a rate without breakfast included and enjoy a real Méxican breakfast in the same place or elsewhere. Other that that it is the best hotel on the island!

We could not have been happier with our choice of La Palapa. It was very close to the water with many available beach chairs in the shade (which was important to me) and out in the sun, whatever you preferred, and there were a variety of types of chairs to choose from. Other hotels were set very far back from the water and had a road for the golf carts in between the hotel and the water, which looked less desirable. Another point of the great location was the proximity to the town square and shops, we could easily walk to many choices of restaurants and snacks/tacos and was close to many of the tour operators. We went specifically to see the whale sharks, we did a very long trip to the 'agua azul' (deep blue), but it was well worth it since there were hundreds of whale sharks to snorkel with. If you want to see the huge pod of whale sharks be sure to ask about 'agua azul'. our room was very comfortable and clean, we never had any problem with mosquitos except that we like to be on the beach at sunset (so a little insect spray/wipes does the trick if it bothers you), the weather was perfect, the water was very very warm, the water had a spectacular color, and the sand is like powder. La Palapa has a cute quaint charm to it that was everything we would have dreamed of for a mexican/carribean hotel, it was adorable to say the least. we flew to cancun, stayed the night and took the public bus to holbox, i would change this to just pay for a private taxi to go straight to holbox the first night and wake up to an amazing place the first day! I would highly recommend this hotel, I think it had the best location (to water, beach, town) and atmosphere on the island, it was one of our favorite trips. it also has a restaurant which was convenient and good.

The service is what made Hotel La Palapa stand out from the others. The employees were truly amazing people -- sharp, on top of things, and just genuinely happy to host me.

Addittionnally to the excellent diving, rich fishing and grat fun at the hotel, I enjoyed one of the nicest views in my entire life. The hotel infraestructure is spectacular, rooms very comfortable and again with an excellent view.

An absolute jewel. Conveniently close to the port and the plaza, and right on its own beach – one of the best sections (although the Holbox beach in general is not up to the standard of those on the east coast of Quintana Roo). The rooms are delightful and characterful, all facing the beach with balcony or terrace. The staff are all friendly and helpful.
The highlight, however, is the restaurant, Casa Nostra. Outstanding Sicilan cuisine by any standards, as well as the best eating place we saw anywhere on the island. We were more than happy to eat in every night, which we would normally never do at a hotel. Guiseppe, il capo, takes justifiable pride in his homemade breads, imaginative puddings and first-class pasta dishes, and he is a charming attentive host. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Maybe upper floor for more privacy, but all rooms seem good.
