“Great accommodation -Disappointing food”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

We have just spent the weekend in this charming B&B . The Inn itself is lovely -beautiful period furniture - large rooms very nicely decorated. The staff seems to be in transition (this was just the 4th day for he receptionist) and they did did their very best to make us comfortable. However the food was very disappointing. Our dinner the first night was just OK -lukewarm caesar salad and overcooked veggies. We did bring our own bottle of wine which for a $15 corkage fee was a very good idea. The breakfast however was very uninspiring -little tiny bite-size frozen quiche or small frozen waffles. How boring is that? You can still serve frozen entrees but please use a little imagination and presentation.

My husband and I stayed here as we were in town for a family wedding. Our room, The William Merritt room was absolutely beautiful and had a breathtaking view of the canal and the escarpment. Staff was very accommodating and was even understanding about a last minute cancellation of the room for my mother, who was ill and unable to come with us. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the dining room overlooking the grounds (gorgeous antique furnishings!) which included some of the best coffee we have ever had! We took an extra cup of coffee down to the pergola shaded patio by the water fountain and felt so peaceful and relaxed we could have stayed there all day. We will definitely be back!

My wife, I and another couple ate at the Keefer Estate on June 1, 2012. We had a mundane salmon slice that was overpriced. It came with a sliver of potato. We had eaten at the Keefer in 2011 and it was excellent. Needless to say, we were quite disappointed by our experience this time.

I recently had dinner at the Keefer Mansion Inn to celebrate a friends 60th Birthday and I was sadly disappointed with our experience.

I felt the meal was totally substandard for the prices that they charge.

The main course, although good, was nothing to rave about, My Pork Tenderloin was served with dough...bland dough.

And when our desserts came, the fruit turnover was burnt, the chocolate mouse was tossed in a bowl instead of parfait glass and was more some cocoa with whip cream and the supposed Lemon Cheese cake dessert was only whip cream in a ramekin dish with a strawberry.

We were all disappointed.

I believe the waitresses knew the dessert was not acceptable too, as they did not come back to see how things were until it was time to give us the bill.

All four of us were not impressed. For such a beautiful place that has such great potential, they should spend some good money on a proper chef/manager. There is no way this food should have come out of the kitchen the way it did.

Absolutely no thought was put in to the presentation or the standard of food.

As a business professional, dining with friends, I can't say I will recommend Keefer Mansion Inn and I was considered having a business function there but have decided against it.

Ship up. The owner needs to spend some money on a top rate chef/manager as this place has so much more potential of being "the place to dine".

We stayed at the Inn on Saturday, March 3, 2012 and from the time we arrived until we left we were totally pleased with the experience. We received a warm greeting upon our arrival and were led to the most beautiful room. Considering the cold windy weather our room was warm and comfortable. The four poster bed was very comfortable and our bathroom was also spacious and nice. We had dinner plans already and didn't stay at the Inn for dinner but we did come back to enjoy a wonderful desert in our room. In the morning we had a perfectly cooked and presented breakfast. The staff was warm, friendly and knowledgeable about the inn. It was a perfect visit and I could not even suggest any improvements. Next time we will stay for a meal at the Inn. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Room Tip: Room 201 was where we stayed and having had the chance to look through some others I think we had th...

We visited the Keefer Mansion Inn Jan 5-6, 2012. The rooms are nicely furnished and clean. The heating in our room was unusual... all forced air heat came through the bathroom. This was great because the bathroom was always warm. We managed the heat in the room by adjusting the bathroom door. The bed was quite soft in the middle; had to sleep on the floor on my bedroll to prevent aching back. I had asked for the hardest bed they had, but they were all basically the same (I checked them at check-in).
Dinner was FANTASTIC. Excellent service, really nice atmosphere in the dining room. It was quiet enough to have a conversation, but still had music in the background.
Breakfast was OK, nothing special.
Nearby we could visit the Welland Canal. Within 20 minutes' drive are lots of wineries and tourist spots. Thorold is near Niagara on the Lake, Jordan and St. Catherines as well as Niagara Falls, the city.
We like hiking and found the most amazing trail that went down a long flight of stairs, through huge boulders, rocks, forest, etc. We arrived at the banks of the Niagara River. We kept going for about an hour and could see where the cable car comes across. At the other end there was a rocky beach and another staircase. The entire hike took about 2-2.5 hours. Lucky there wasn't much snow! It would be fabulous in the summer and fall.

We also found the southern beginning of the Bruce Trail in the city of Niagara Falls. We hiked along for about 40 minutes ~ very easy and flat through a forest ~ then returned to the car.

Room Tip: We saw all four 'antique' type rooms. They all have big windows. The street is quiet, so n...

We stayed here on a cold weekend in February. It was a perfect romantic retreat! The mansion is stunning and the rooms have been wonderfully restored. One of the days we were here, we were "snowed in". What a wonderful excuse to spend the day on the inn, lounging in the peace of our room.

This inn is a great base to explore the Niagra peninsula and it's away from the tourist hustle and bustle. It's a very short drive to the falls or Niagra on the Lake.

We found the rooms spotless and the staff very caring and accommodating. One morning the housekeeper treated us to a tour of the mansion and gave us a little history lesson to boot!

We stayed a couple of night's for supper and it was wonderful to toddle down for a great relaxing meal and then simply navigate back up to the room afterwards.

All in all, I,can't say enough about the wonderful time we spent here and the great staff we encountered.
