“Enjoyable stay”
Reviewed October 9, 2010

My wife and I have been staying at this motel yearly in September for a number of years. We allows find the staff friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean and satisfactory to our needs. We enjoy being able to walk out into the quiet garden area directly from our room. The breakfast is good, and we enjoy the selection of fresh fruit.

We had plans to see family from Calgary this summer in Comox, but our plans fell through. We came up with the idea to meet up halfway (we live in Port Moody) to holiday in the Okanagan. It was last-minute, so virtually impossible to find reasonably priced accommodation for our family of three, my inlaws and our two nephews. We were able to book a room with a kitchenette for my Calgary family, and get a room on the lower level adjacent to the courtyard for my husband and my 17 month old son and myself. Being on the courtyard was ideal for visiting while our son napped and went to bed early. The one drawback to the courtyard was the sign stating "no fun"...well, it had a long list of rules including no playing ball, no singing, etc. My nephews would have liked to throw a ball or even sing a song!
The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean. They even allow pets which was great for us!
Breakfast is wonderful. It was a treat not to cook and have such a variety of food available.
Location is decent. The motel is on the highway but it's a short drive (or a hot walk next to a busy highway) to an excellent beach and to downtown Summerland.
It's not fancy, but it met our needs and we had a great holiday.

We stayed at the motel for 9 nights in late August. We quickly learned that there is a significant difference between the "old" building and "new" building. The old building is an absolute dump. Our room smelled, had mold growing between the tiles on the bathroom floor, and the most uncomfortable beds imaginable. We asked to be moved into the new building, and the management accommodated our request, but only after making us feel as though it was a major inconvenience to do so! They were rude when moving us, and even had the nerve to ask "didn't you look at the pictures online??"

The room in the new building was better by comparison. It was cleaner and the beds more comfortable, but we still feel the motel is overpriced. The pool isn't heated and the furniture is getting old.

If they owners want to continue to charge what they do for their rooms, it's time to renovate the old building and spend some money to update the decor and hotel amenities.

after reading some adverse comments we were most pleasantly surprised to find this a clean, well kept motel. with pleasant, helpful staff.
How anyone could fault this establishment, including a good continental breakfast is beyond me.

Our family have been staying here since about 2004 and we have never been unhappy with the service or accommodation. Our kids now aged 15 and 19 have always loved going there. The price is affordable and the rooms are spotless. Unless we win the lottery and can afford 5 star luxury with wrap around balconies and a lake view, and satin linen, this is a close second in our books! Thanks John & Karin for your excellent service. Swanepoel family, Abbotsford, BC

Having stayed here 3 years ago, before renovations were done, I found the same high quality in amenities, service, and friendly advice. The owners remembered me, and since I grew up in the Okanagan, they could relate to what I knew of the area.
We needed beds for 3 adults, so a cot was provided. It was just perfect!

We stayed in the Garden VIP suite which included one bedroom with a king sized bed and a pullout couch in the living area. Upon pulling out the couch for our two sons to sleep on, we realized that not only was the bed unmade but it was also covered in potato chip crumbs with empty water bottles underneath. After removing the mattress and shaking off the dirt and crumbs, we realized the mattress was ancient and the bottom of it was full of holes with stuffing coming out. It should have been thrown in the garbage. My husband did complain to the front desk about the chips and dirt and the response was simply, "housekeeping did check it after the last guest". Well, obviously not because it was filthy. We also had to request new pillow cases for the king sized bed as the ones provided were stained/dirty. For $189 per night with a 5% BCAA discount, we were not impressed with the VIP suite.

The guest complained that on opening up the sofa bed he found potato chips all over the mattress cover. He advised me that he had shaken them out all over the floor, there were a lot of them and he made a lot more mess than if he had simply asked us to clean them up from the bed but I think he was trying to prove a point. We always leave our sofa beds stripped with clean linen in the closet. The fact that the bed was stripped shows that this bed was clean. My only assumption is that the children from this family sat on the sofa eating chips which fell down the side and back of the cushions on to the mattress below and seeing what a mess the children made at our breakfast bar I would think that this is highly likely to be the case.

The sofa bed mattress is less than three years old but gets torn underneath by the springs from the sofa when guests open and close it without making sure it is in the correct place. We have a new mattress on order which will be here this week.

Regarding stained pillow cases, we could not see any stains but the guest could so we changed everything.

This particular guest was very rude to the point of bellowing at my housekeeper when, for security reasons, she closed the patio door after cleaning the room, this had been left open by the guest. Had she not closed it she would have no doubt been in hot water for leaving his room unsecured.
