We stopped at Pie Whole with the family after a hard day of playing on St Thomas and what a treat! This is a really small restaurant tucked behind a baseball field and near what I think is the only McDonalds on the island.
It took a good 20 minutes just to get through the beer menu - and what a menu it is. Name the Belgian beer and Pie Whole has it - seriously - and the glasses to serve them in to boot.
So while we're working through the beer menu, we had to start with hands-down the best Freschetta we've ever had! The fresh flat bread was literally straight out of the brick-fired oven and the combination of red onions and sublimely rich balsamic and basil was heaven. And the kids were treated to not just a glass, but an entire pitcher of Shirley Temples thanks to our amazing waitress "Becka" (Becky? Rebecca?) -- there aren't enough positive words to use to describe her: attentive, helpful, friendly, timely, and always there for us. Sh
I started with the Houblon Chouffe, a dobbelen IPA tripel which was simply incredible and moved onto the Orval for something to accompany our incredible three pizzas: 1) their new Italian Sub, 2) a more kid-friendly pepperoni/olives/cheese and 3) one of the best strombolis we've ever had. The ingredients were amazingly fresh and quite exotic -- the setting was quite intimate (only a few tables and bar seating) and the company was just the best.
All said, we are converts and can't wait for our next trip to St Thomas -- Pie Whole will be a repeat-visit next time!!
