We stayed at Pagua Bay House in January 2013 and loved it. Rooms are modern and spacious and the beds & linens are wonderful. Rick and Alicia are excellent hosts - friendly and informative. The hotel is relatively small so you get personal attention. The food in the bar/restaurant was very good especially compared to what is generally available on the Island. The view is fabulous and the air is about as fresh as you can get on Planet Earth.

Located so close to the Melville Hall Airport it is a great place to stay especially if you arrive after dark or have a very early morning flight when you leave. Driving in Dominica is difficult to say the least - winding, narrow, steep roads that do not have lighting - and driving after dark is to be avoided. We stayed for 3 nights at the beginning of our trip; our flight was delayed until after dark and it was great to arrive at the hotel in less than 10 minutes. When we left our 7:00 flight meant that we had to be at the airport by 6:00. It was still dark when we set out and again I was very happy to have such a short drive.

Accommodation in Dominica is a difficult thing. You really need to pay a good fortune to get something decent. Pagua Bay definitely is decent, in fact, it is beautiful with a magnificent view right across Pagua Beach. Nice pool, cute cabanas and the owners Rick and Alicia are totally amazing. We didn't have a reservation but the two made us feel like home at once, although the Hotel had just re-opened for a few days in November 2012. The owners did a great job with the new cabanas and the restaurant/pool area. Pagua Bay is close to the Melville Hall Airport which is another big plus. They even offer you a pick-up-service, but you will need a rental car anyway on Dominica to get to the attractions. Thanks for a wonderful time (and our lucky hat ;-))

There are some trips that fade quickly from your memory and then there are others that stay with you forever. Pagua Bay House and Dominica are definitely in that latter catagory. We knew Dominica was not the white sand beach, high rise hotel, piped in rock music kind of place - thats why we went there. And Pague Bay House was just the perfect conbination of quality accommodations, gorgeous views, wonderful food right on the edge of the jungle. If you want an away from it all feeling where the only noise is nature, this is it. Plus, Rick and Alicia are the most wonderful hosts - you feel like you've known them for years. We stayed 4 nights and wished it had been longer. Thank you for creating that "forever memory" for us.

Room Tip: We were in Cabana # 4 and we think its the perfect spot on the property, but there is really no bad...

We stayed at Pagua for 3 nights and we wishe we coud have stayed more. Our oceanfront cabbana was very roomy, everything is new and of good quality. It felt a little bit like being at home. Pagua is at Atlantic ocean side, so there is fresh ocean breeze every day. The weather on the island is hot and very wet, but you don't really feel it at Pague. Because of the breeze its very nice and fresh there.

The owners, Alicia and Rick are great at organizing things. During our short stay we had a yoga class, massage, manicure and of course loads of hiking to waterfalls, exploring black sand beaches, snorkeling etc.

We got a very good guide who lead is through the jungle to waterfalls. Climbing huge boulders and crossing hot steaming streams is really cool, I felt like Indiana Jones or Allan Quatermain or maybe both of them at the same time :).

I was silly enough to leave my hiking sandals behind, but Gaby, a girl from Pagua, lended me a pair of Nike's, which was just great and saved our holiday. You woud't want to cross the jungles in flip-flops :).

Generally we felt very welcome. When our flight from Dominica to Puerto Rico was cancelled they send a driver to pick us up and negotiated with AmericanAirlanes to get us a free stay at Pagua. That was really great, as otherwise we would have to go to some dodgy free accomodation in Roseo (which is 1,5 hour drive away from the airport) provided by AA.

Ah, and the food at Pagua restoraunt was really good. We really like good coocking and ways try to find a best option. The fod there was awesome, really nice and spicy with a twist.

Room Tip: Cabbana no 3 was great. It feels very private.

If you're considering a trip to Dominica, the Caribbean's "nature island", I highly suggest a stay at Pagua Bay House. Even before we arrived, we knew we had selected well. Owner Alicia (who owns the property with her husband, Rick) was in frequent contact me in order to plan some of the logistics ahead of our arrival. And when our flight from Peurto Rico to Dominica was canceled, she allowed us to push our reservation back by a day (even though that meant a double booking which resulted in our being upgraded to the fancy cabana for the last night). Thanks Alicia!

We selected Cabana 4 and it was just ideal for the two of us (my boyfriend and I). It is so cute and private and has its own hammock, perfect for star gazing. The bed was so comfortable that I slept better than I had in years, with the sound of the ocean and cool breezes coming through the windows. In addition to a great bed, the cabana has a spacious bathroom, powful shower (plenty of hot water), a very large walk in closet with plenty of shelves and a great view of the ocean.

The new pool and restaurant seem to be great additions. I think breakfast was my favorite meal - Rick's bagels are indeed fabulous. At our request, one evening the restaurant served us gigantic freshly caught lobsters. And always Gabby greeted us with her friendly smile and wonderful personality. We felt truly welcome.

Alicia helped us book various excursions and we couldn't have been happier with the guides whom she selected - Felix for trips to the beaches along the north of the island and (gosh, I can't recall his name) someone else for an adventure to Emerald Pool and Victoria Falls (quite a hike, over river boulders and along a slippery river bank, bring good shoes!).

We really loved our stay at Pagua Bay. The property is very comfortable, the vibe is relaxed, there are flowers and tropical plants everywhere, the view of the ocean is awesome and everyone is friendly. Plus it's super close to the airport, though you'd never know it once you get there.

Room Tip: Cabana 4 was just perfect for us (a couple).

We stayed at Pagua Bay three nights in early January 2013 and had a wonderfully perfect time. Alicia and Rick could not have been more helpful situating us in a combination of rooms that matched our needs. The location of the cabanas could not be more beautiful; Pagua Bay, although quite close to the airport, is a peaceful, unspoiled area with a picture-perfect (although unswimmable) beach. The food at the restaurant was sensational! Ask Rick for his homemade lobster ravioli or goat-filled dolma. These cabanas are a testament to the vision, creativity and care of their two wonderful creators.

If you are looking for a bit more comfort and luxury,Dominica is not an easy destination to find it. Situated on the rough East Coast we were happy to discover the Pagua Bay Cabanas. Set on a slope above the wild roaring ocean, the cabanas from the outside dont look exactly luxurious. But once you are inside its a different story: each cabana is designed differently, - all with high ceilings, beautiful wooden floors, very comfortable beds, great showers, TVs etc. Its a good spot to discover this part of the island, and Rick and Alicia have tons of great suggestions to plan excursions for you. We loved in particicluar their insider tipps, - like a hike to a hidden waterfall or tubing down the Pagua river as well as telling us where to get the best fish tacos on the island. After exploring the wild and often raw sides of this beautiful island it always felt good to come back to a place with all comforts trying to keep its stand against the wild forces of nature, that would take back over in no time. Rick and Alicia are professional hosts and try very hard to keep Pagua Bay Houses a little island of luxury and civilisation within a wild and rough island which only seems to wait until it can swallow this place up again with jungle and sea.
