My husband and I spent 8 nights at this beautiful place and enjoyed every minute of it. Yes, the driving from the main road is a little bit too tough but I guess that's the price of being secluded in a forest which by the way you start admiring right from the beginning.
This is not a place for everyone though, if you are looking for a luxury place with WiFi, cellphone signal, TV, etc. you need to look some place else.
Roots is right there in the jungle with hiking trails, a river where you can dip in, multiple birds coming in and out of your room, amazing vegetation, delicious food and better service.
We stayed in the Arawak cabin, plenty of space and privacy but the best is the balcony with a double hammock where we spent hours reading with the sound of the jungle.
It is run by Nico who is always ready to help you get the most out of your visit to the Island, he is also and incredible chef who cooked delicious breakfasts and dinners for us.
Definitely a great choice which we don't regret a bit.

Room Tip: Renting a vehicle is strongly suggested as there are many nice places to visit around. If you choose to do so you need a 4x4 one as it is the only way to get to Roots from the main road. The three cabins are nice but Arawak offers more space and privacy. You need to bring a book light to read at night as the battery operated light in the cabin is not strong enough, we did have nooks with intrinsic light and it worked beautifully.

Ok, so the drive in shakes your bones. The cabins don't have windows. Birds fly in and eat your food. The place is run off a car battery, and you your water comes out of the River behind the cabins. At night, the noise from the waterfall is only eclipsed by the noise from the animals, and if it rains, the noise on the tin roof competes head on. If all this puts you off, don't go. If it intrigues you, this is your place. Amazing, beautiful, and about as close to nature as one gets in 2014. Wonderful food, even nicer people, a sense of community the minute you arrive, and beauty that defies description. Might be the single most memorable place we've ever been.

Room Tip: There are only 3, so pick the one that is the right size for your needs. The one closest to the river is the loudest at night, but what a beautiful noise.

Had a fabulous time staying at Roots. Drove all over island exploring sites and natural treasures like Sari Sari Falls and Scotts Head. Nico was always available with suggestions and details and how to get there. Food was delicious and plentiful. Room was very relaxing with hammock and beautiful view of jungle.

Hint: Bring binoculars to try and see parrots.

Stayed here with my girlfriend and it was amazing. Truly off the grid and in the middle of the jungle. Good food and from the minute we arrived, after the crazy off-roading path, I never once thought about email or cell phone.Nico was a great host!

From the moment we arrived we knew it was going to be a great experience. The road was a bit bumpy, but I guess that’s what keeps this place so genuine. Nico was a great host, excellent cook, and very helpful with everything we needed. He knows the island and will give you tips to visit places that are not well marked, some of them not even showing up on our guide book. The accommodations are simple, but comfortable, and clean. Different from the coast, in Roots there were no bugs, and the temperatures were a lot nicer, probably due to the altitude. We slept with our windows fully open, enjoying the breeze and sounds of the rainforest. Can’t wait to come back!!!

Room Tip: Stayed at Carib, which is the smaller cottage but perfect for 2 people. It does have a small attic. Bathroom is nice.
