Casa Lucilo y Nirma
Ranked #90 of 207 Vinales B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 11, 2012

This must be one of the best casas in Cuba. When you arrive in Vinales, there will be LOTS of people approaching your car wanting to take you to their casa or a casa where they're on commision - DON'T GO ANYWHERE WITH THEM. Book Lucilo y Nirma instead and go straight there - they are one of the nicest couples you will ever meet. Everything you would expect from a good casa is there - comfortable, cool room, nice bathroom, peaceful outdoor terrace, top cuisine - with the added bonus of multi language speaking hosts and the most charming of locations down a country lane which suits the rural atmosphere of Vinales (yet only round the corner from the centre of the village). Also, the price is well below average for Cuban casas so it's an absolute bargain - I actually think they under price temselves!

My wife and I enjoyed 5 night with Lucillo, Nirma and their family in February 2012. Again, the accomodation and meals were first rate! Lucillo is justly proud of the new brick barbeque he designed and constructed in the courtyard, and his pork, chicken and lamb dinners are truly delicious. Nirma's hospitality helped my wife enjoy her first trip to Cuba, and she has obviously passed on her gracious manner to her daughter, Julie, and her son, Junior. When we needed to make arrangements for transportation or other things, the family was able to source reliable choices. I highly recommend this Casa for these reasons, but also because it's 2 streets off the main road in Vinales. This gets you a bit more into the local scene, and helps to capture a bit more of the the ebb and flow of Vinales l
I found Vinales now has a lot more choice in restaurants, food kiosks and carts, and entertainment, than my first visit in December, 2009. There are several good paladares in town, including a great on half way up the road to the Hotel La Ermita. This small, open air restaurant is terraced on the right side of the road, and is beautifully set in flowers and other plants. The food is really good, and well-priced.

Room Tip: The separate room at the back of the courtyard is spacious, and gives a little separation and privac...

The hosts were amazing. Friendly and helpful. We had a few requests for trips etc and transport (which was a complex one) and they managed to arrange them all no problem at a good price too.

The room was separate from the rest of the house and there is a great outdoor space for eating and relaxing.

The casa is close enough to the centre of the town, for convenience, but far enough away from the main square so that you can't hear the music from there in the evening.

Great place to stay, would stay here again.

We highly recommend this casa in the beautiful Viñales. Lucilo, Nirma and their two two adult children are extremely helpful, nice and hospitable people. The food is great, the house is very clean and its a relaxing place to stay at. We only have the best things to say about this casa and the family of Lucilo y Nirma! If you're visiting Viñales - this is the casa to stay!

We spent 3 nights at Lucilo and Nirma's house. They are a very hospitable and friendly family making you feel immediately welcome. We felt it was just the right mix of privacy and family integration. We especially enjoyed chatting with them (in Spanish) in the evenings in the typical Vinales rocking chairs. The room is clean, nice and quiet in the backyard. Nirma is a great cook (e.g. delicious chickpea soup!), and we suggested she should open a vegetarian paladar in Vinales. Her husband Lucilo's mojitos are among the very best we've had in Cuba, and he makes sure that the fruits you get for breakfast are really ripe and tasty. They can also help you with trips and excursions - Nirma has in the past worked as a biology teacher, and she organised for us, being biologists as well, a very special walking excursion with her former university professor Enma who now works as a guide - the best guide you can imagine if you really want to learn something about the nature in this area.

Having stayed in a number of casas across Cuba, Casa Lucilo y Nirma was definitely the best. The entire house was spotless, the food excellent, the family welcoming and helpful (particularly in helping us to find accommodation on the next leg of our journey), and, after the craziness of Havana, the tranquil surroundings of the casa and Vinales was much welcome. Highly recommended.

Everything said previously was true, great place, friendly people, etc. I will also add that Nirma cooked us some fantastic vegetarian meals! Definitely the best food we had in Cuba! We stayed for 5 nights and they didn't mind storing our bikes for us when we left for a few days.
