“Best family in Cuba!”
Reviewed June 30, 2012

We loved staying with Tomas and Yolanda and the rest of the clan - they were very genuine and hospitable and to us, it was our best stay in Cuba because of this. The room is basic - two double beds, private bathroom with hot water shower - and it was very clean. It has it's own door from the courtyard and a separate side entrance to the house if you are coming and going early or late.

The family provided breakfast - simple but delicious - and the meal we ate there was tasty and it's highly recommended to dine in at least one night there.

Really staying in the casa's in Cuba is about the experience you have with the family and this was the right balance between friendliness and privacy, which was appreciated. Tomas and Yolanda seemed to really care if we were enjoying our time around their town too.

The location is good, just two blocks from the main street and we just went to the street when we arrived, told one person who were looking for and they called ahead and Tomas came to find us! That small town feel was definitely another highlight of being in Vinales!

I have booked Casa Yolanda y Tomas Mederos on hotelclick.com just few days in advance. I received confirmation from Tomas in few hours.

We arrived in the middle of crazy rain and all people near bus station tried to force us to go to their casas. We've heard that 'this casa doesn't exist anymore", "burned down" or is "just ugly". All lies of course and we were happy to take taxi to get there. We didn't inform Thomas or Yolanda of our arrival plans, that's why we couldn't meet in the centre. We took taxi and cost was 3 CUC - fair price.

When we arrived our room wasn't ready yet, but they prepared it asap. We've been offered some cold drinks whilst waiting. Rain was gone so we decided to go to the centre and do some sightseeing. Tomas could help you calling for taxi if you.

We came back later and checked-in to our room. Room was clean, fresh and quite spacious, en-suite. Air-condition was working fine you have small balcony facing garden. Bathroom attached and hot water was available all the time. Only one issue I had that was electric installation in the shower - that worked, but one day somebody could be electrocuted by that.
There is separate entry, so you don't have to bother family when coming back late.

In the evening we had our dinner which we requested earlier. Absolutely perfect. Soooo tasty and a lot of it. I couldn't move.

Before leaving next morning breakfast was served. Again, good choice and really tasty.

I have to say that this family (especially kids) are very hospitable and kind. You'd definitely have great time staying here. I can easily recommend it. Good price, nice location and friendly people.

We stayed at at Casa Yolanda y Tomas for 4 nights at the start of our trip to Cuba the end of August 2011. IT WAS FABULOUS AND WE WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. We arrived very late after our flight was delayed and the family were brilliant. So hospitable, kind and welcoming. The room and little private bathroom was a spotlessly clean and comfortable base for our time exploring the area. The family helped arrange excursions for our time in Vinales including horse riding around the Mogotes and swimming in a cave, not least an introduction to cigars and rum! Everyone should experience Yolandas soup and a fruit punch or mojito on the patio of their beautiful home. We remember Tomas, Yolanda, Yanelkis, Jorge and the beautiful boys fondly and hope one day to see them again in Vinales.

We stayed with Yolanda, Tomas, their daughter Yanelkis, son-in-law Jorge and their 2 children for 3 nights and were immediately made to feel at home. Yolanda's soups were especially fabulous and the food plentiful. During our stay Jorge took us on a local walk and to visit a local farmer [we tasted our first cigars!] and we explored the area in our rental car, including the gorgeous beach at Cayo Jutías. The Viñales area is stunning and the town laid back and there is a nearby hotel where non residents can use the pool. We left, almost in tears, with big hugs, hoping we'll be able to return some day.

A lovely gracious family. Yolanda's soup was great- I arrived with a bad tummy bug and this was the perect place to recuperate. The gardens were really pretty, full of flowers & buzzing with tiny bee hummingbirds. Yanelkis speaks great English & was very caring & hospitable.

We didn't get to partake in many activities due to illness, but Vinales is a great little village just to go slowly & absorb the rhthyms of daily life. We loved just hanging out at the small produce market & were lucky enough to catch a local baseball game- in the most spectacular setting- hemmed by the gorgeous magotes. Highly recommended ;-)

We arrived by bus and Jorge (son in law) was there to greet us with a big smile. The family is wonderful and friendly. (Tomas & Yolanda with daughter Yanelkis and spouse Jorge with son Jorge Jr. ). The room with two double beds, private bathroom and attached backyard private little terrace overlooking the back garden was ideal. Perfect for chilling out at the end of the day with a Mojito. The meals were excellent and plentiful ! We ate breakfast and dinner most days. We felt very at home. Tomas makes a great Mojito. We spent 4 nights here and loved it - we would return here. Vinales is a must do. We speak English and a small amount of Spanish, the family speaks Spanish, Yanelkis speaks English. We had no problems communicating and getting along.
