What a fantabulous time! Hotel was luxurious, beach was absolutely stunning, and so was the service, especially their eyelashes, and six-packs, and people were wonderful! We could not have had more fun--I have traveled many places, but have never had the experience as I did at Crane. Amongst the many amazing things we did, was spend time on the beach; Shawn and Andrew were steamy. No..for real...They were! Time of our lives!!!

We have been visiting the Crane for many years and have holidayed through all the changes of the last ten years. From the old style colonial hotel as was, to the modern holiday complex it has become, the Crane has lost very little of it's allure and nothing from it's superb location. Sat on a bluff overlooking the beautiful Crane beach with it's magnificient crashing waves it has probably had more photo shoots from this single spot than any other place in the caribbean; and no wonder, it is a wonderful sight that will stay long in the memory.

And if you want your own beach then nip round the bluff to Foul Bay and you will find six or seven people hard to come by. The renowned beach at Bottom Bay is just ten minutes drive away and well worth the visit and with the world famous sights of Bathsheba a little further up the road ... make sure you take your camera.
For the more adventurous then venture inland from here and drive a winding road up to Farleys Hill; where 60 years ago once stood a beautiful plantation house and the film "Island In The Sun" was shot starring Harry Belafonte. The house sadly burnt down soon after but the skeleton remains along with its mysteries and thoughts of lives long gone. From here the views down to Bathsheba and the south east of Barbados are magnificient.

The approach and surrounding area of The Crane has little to offer any visitor but I am sure this will change as more and more people visit and perhaps a growth of small local cafes and restaurants will emerge in their wake; only time will tell as to whether competition will be allowed to flourish and thus put a cap on rising prices.

Within the complex is everything one would need for a relaxing vacation, whether you are a couple, young or old or a family with children. Teenagers might find it a little boring if swimming against the waves, body-board surfing, tennis and sun-bathing are not enough, though with the advent of a new fully equiped gym and the promise of a small 40 seater cinema due soon these might help those more fidgety types; and ofcourse internet access is a finger touch away.

Car hire can be had easily from Stoutes Car Hire just a mile along the road and a telephone call away. Stoutes offer competitive rates and an excellent service.
Anne has been running the family business for many years and sees repeat guests year after year and is a genuinly nice lady. Nuff said !

Finally ... The Crane would not be The Crane without mentioning it's greatest asset...
It's Staff.
From Bernice in reception to Ruth at the members desk nothing is ever too much trouble and everything is met with a smile. There are so many staff members I could mention but I would be afraid to leave someone out, that is how genuinly wonderful the Crane staff are, simply the best.

Downsides?
Well remember Barbados and it's hotels are expensive... so plan your vacation carefully.
Take things easy at first til you get the lie of the land and the cost of things and while you are doing that, relax by the pool and work on that tan the locals say is the best in the world... a Bajan tan:-)

Overall we received very attentive service. Sabrina is exceptional.
If you love body surfing, the Crane beach is the best on the island.
The Zen restaurant is superb.
The Crane has all the luxurious appointments one would expect from a first class resort.

We have been apartment vistors to the Crane since it was just a 200 year old small hotel magnificently situated on the South East cliffs of the island where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. The swimming pool over looked quite the most stunning beach imaginable. It was peaceful and beautiful. We watched the burgeoning developments with increasing anxiety; we feared the utter peace and tranquility would be sacrificed for commercial noise and razamatazz. It hasn't happened. Of course there are far more people but everyone seems to cherish their own peace and are considerate of of others - most of the time.

We used to think The Crane was a bit like 'Fawlty Towers'. The specifications - solid, good quality furnishings, huge frig, washing machine/drier, air con etc etc - were wonderful but there was always something that that wasn't quite right or working properly. But we do not worry because the service and maintenance is nothing short of superb. Whatever it is, however trivial, there is a 24 hour service. The maintenance team is invariably polite, efficient and prompt! We have had the not inconsiderably sized ceiling fan replaced withing 24 hours, on the one hand, and a gentle steer in the right direction when struggling with an internet connection on the other.

This year my 90 year old mother came with us to celebrate her birthday. She was spoiled beautifully. Flowers cards and wonderful courtesy made such a difference. There was a delay in getting into our apartment and the lift was out of order so we had to wait - but in comfortable chairs with large complementary rum punchs. Mum was later sent a bottle of wine and a card of apology. Nothing is ever perfect but The Crane is always concerned to do whatever they can to put matters right as soon as possible.

Tips: Zen restaurant superb - but book and check full menu available.
Azure restaurant very good lunches - lovely views - not too pricey but dinner expensive
Italian restaurant very variable, pricey compared with UK
Swimming - the beach is wonderful but can be dangerous. Red flag should be strictly watched
gym very good and well equipped
Haven't tried anything else!
Good luck

This was our second stay at the Crane in as many years.

After arriving, we discovered that the electronic room door lock was broken and wouldn’t allow us to lock up when leaving.

Having read some reviews that suggest problems are not always attended to, I became mildly worried.
Any fears were soon put to rest. Korey, the evening manager. He showed up promptly, determined that the lock couldn't be fixed in short order and that we would have to change rooms. He upgraded us to a room with a private pool and a spectacular view, for the entire stay.
They also comped our dinner the first night. The food at L'azure was delicious and the service was impeccable.

Top marks to management, our stay was truly memorable – we will be back.

Dear 'PeterfromMontreal'
In spite of our continued efforts to provide an exceptionally memorable experience in every area, there are some occasions when all does not go as planed. With this said, we have put in place a team who understands the needs of the guests and Mr. Korey Boyce is a sterling example of this. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again.

Warm Regards from Sunny Barbados

It is hard to believe that the disparaging reviews that I read from the one NY family in December, are about the same hotel from which we have just returned.
The staff at the Crane appear to be committed to establishing a Place of Grace..... where the needs of the client are above the profits of the establishment!
It was the small threads through-out our stay, Sophie in reservations, Katrina in guest services, Kim Goddard and her staff and the unknown waiter who picked up my fallen napkin before I could get to it...and actually the list is much longer...that wove the word wonderful into the fabric of our stay.....
We were always treated in a kind, repectful, helping manner, by all staff we encountered.

The Crane is not for everyone...nor has it ever been, since its inception in the mid 1700's, before tourism was a word.
It was and is a place of exquisite beauty, where the elements of nature, both gentle and fierce, combine to form one of those very unique and special places on this earth...
The coastline...sweeps out into your vision, while the pools invite you to stay......
This is not a place to drain your soul...but rather a place to restore it.

The Crane is a proud beacon of the Barbados experience..this is an island that fills your wine glass to the rim and genuinely wants you to have the best vacation of your life.

Dear 'lillypuggles',
Let me begin by saying that we at The Crane find your term “A Place of Grace” quite endearing. And you are quite right; The Crane is not for everyone. We pride ourselves on mixing history, with modern luxury; lush landscaping set against rugged cliff sides. Add to that a dash of pampering, with our world class amenities. What’s more, we are encouraged by the fact that you recognised that our team goes beyond mere professionalism when they can, to bring you that truly unique experience. We look forward to seeing you again and we are touched by your poetic words.

In 2009 my husband and I went to The Crane for lunch and ended up owning 1 week in a 1 bedroom oceanfront gorgeous room. We waited all year to go back and was not disappointed. We were impressed so much so, we ended up buying another week! We just got back and can't wait for next year. Everything was up to our expectations and even exceded them. From check-in to check-out and everything in between. Bernice at the front desk, Susan at The Carriage House, Debbie in property sales and everyone else that made our stay so enjoyable and an experience that keeps us wanting to come back. Beautiful beaches, beautiful pools and grounds....you definitely get what you pay for. We love it!

Dear 'lindab70',
We at The Crane are truly happy that you enjoyed your stay with us…again!! From your message it is clear that you are members, but what warms our hearts is that you became a part of The Crane family after visiting the property just for lunch!! We are delighted to hear that we made such a great first impression as we continue to strive to make every encounter, including the short ones, truly memorable. See you again, Bernice and the team will be looking out for you.
