“Like an Ante-Bellum Mansion”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2014

This lovely plantation house is over 300 years old, and was restored because of a fire. I hold an amazing collection of mahogany antique furniture while the cellar displays old horse-drawn carriages. There is a Bajan Style buffet. The grounds have many huge bearded trees for which Barbados was named.

“A waste of time”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

This place us just very poor. The house was rebuilt in the 1980s so it's not original. The furniture is period but not from the house or bajan. The place is full of cruise ship tourists, shuffling around. The food is like school dinners. A waste of a half day.

“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2014 via mobile

Sunbury Plantation House is well worth a visit. It shows another side of what life was like on the island. Lots of memories of a bygone age. Travelling there gives you a chance to see more of Barbados too. You can eat there too and the food is lovely.

“Interesting plantation house”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2014

Barbados has a long history and visiting Sunbury house gives you an idea of what it was like to
live in a plantation house in the 17th & 18th centuries.
There is much to see, with some original furniture and much replacement furniture from the period added. Sugar being the main crop, required a large labour force and following the introduction of windmill power then steam power, sugar exports increased substantially. This made many plantation owners very rich, however it was interesting to learn that the many of the owners ( in absentia ) used a manager and rarely if every visited the island.
A visit here is interesting and informative ,

“Going back in time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2014

This is our first visit to a plantation house and found sunbury house a very interesting house to visit .plenty to see inside ,the tour guide was very good and you got a good insight as to what life was like in barbados long ago.the grounds around the house are kept very well.
You can get a meal in the restaurant. But the menu is nothing to shout about but sufficed.
You can get a public transport bus the the house but is a long journey due to the many bus stops on the way depending where you start the journey.a taxi is the best option for the visit .
However the day was an interesting one glad we went
