Consider the visit. It was interesting, but nothing spectactular. We went on our own, not as part of a tour. Some tours end there for a buffet lunch. The home was well maintained, the staff seemed to be well informed about the property. However, it was a bit disappointing, as we expected to be wowed.
I grew up in the South, so I am used to well preserved Revolutionary and Civil War mansions and plantations and incredible tours. However, those tours keep you behind a rope and rush you through. We actually ambled all over the grounds and house at our leisure. It was very nice and lots of artifacts, but would not be my top spot to take friends on our next visit.
