A welcoming B+B with very friendly staff, especially the landlord Neil. Good basic accommodation with a hearty breakfast. Hotel is very near but not in the town. Bar below is friendly and hard to leave, but sometimes a bit busy. Worked in the area for six weeks, would definitely stay again.

Couple stayed for one sat night at the rate of £60 incl breakfast whilst our son was with a scout group nearby.

The good:

1. It's clean;
2. The bed was actually very comfortable;
3. Neil (the owner/manager) is a very friendly guy;
4. The breakfast was fine (full English/Welsh) and quick;
5. It's comparatively good value;
6. It was warm despite it being very cold outside;
7. Location is good, in a quiet residential street about a 5 minute walk from the high street.

The not so good:

1. The room is small and the bathroom smaller;
2. The toilet seat was not firmly fixed to the toilet;
3. For some reason we could only get tepid water out of the shower even though the basin water was quite hot - fitting problem?

They don't do food on Saturday nights but Neil pointed us in the direction of a good Italian.

So, don't stay if you are looking for luxury. Stay if you are looking for basic, cheap accommodation.

This hotel is attatched to a working mans pub, nothing wrong with that but it sets the tone.

Parking is difficult as locals like to block over the back of the hotel spaces.

Reception absolutely stank of cabbage when we got there. Things didn't get any better with the rooms. They were horribly outdated and in desperate need of renovation or demolition. Looking round the rooms that my colleagues were in, peeling paper revealing the paper underneath and damp patches of black mildew were common. None of the bathrooms that I saw were properly clear of mildew.

My bed was like sleeping on a sack of rocks and the toilet paper dispenser was located on the inside of the bathroom door such that you couldn't sit on the loo with the door shut.

The windows were old single glazed metal frames that neither open nor closed properly. The food was acceptable considering the tarrif being charged. It was cheap and basic.

My biggest gripe was the hotel staff smoking in the reception. They claimed that it was their home so they could smoke there. I don't believe that this is right and it only added to the tired decrepid smell of this establishment.

I only stayed in this hotel because work had booked it due to the far better Maesmawr Hall Hotel being fully booked. I will be advising work to never use this hotel again under any circumstances. I have had to wash every item that I took with me to remove the smell of cabbage and smoke that this hotel left on my clothes.

An old and tired hotel, that needs lots of TLC and cash spending on it.

Rooms are very basic, and in quite poor repair.

Bathroom was very small and had carpet on the floor (Yuk).

Alarm clock in room vibrated and buzzed when turned on to the point that you had to keep it turned off.

My Collegue who was staying in a single room on the first floor, suffered even worse, his bathroom was even smaller than mine and his room was like an oven, that was after you found it through the maze of corridors.

The food that was served there was the only redeming feature, nothing original, but all good quality.

I would stay here again, but only if there was no other place to stay, I am definatly going to try somewhe where else in the future.

  • Liked — the biscuits in the compliment tray
  • Disliked — dirty, old, poor state of repair, noisy, smelly.
