“GOOD HOTEL FOR BASE”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

This hotel has had everything said about it, tired, needs refurbishment, but you get what you pay for, we were on a KGB deal and paid extra for a sea view room. the room was lovely, spotlessly clean and very comfortable, considering there were 2 coach parties in it was very quiet. breakfast was very nice, bit disappointed that you couldn't go to buffet counter and select own food or that there were no continental style food available, i don;t always want a cooked breakfast, but what food they served was hot and tasty. staff were very friendly and helpful. We had trouble with our tv which was sorted immediately, BBC reception wasn't available, no fault of the hotel so save moaning about this, did anyone ask reception why this problem was ongoing?? the bar prices are very reasonable, bottle of wine for £8, not many hotels can give you that sort of price. it would be lovely to hear that the owners of this hotel would put money into doing this hotel up, it would be well worth it, inside and out, clean the windows, nice net curtains and tidy up car park area. Still if i had the same room again i would return.

Room Tip: Choose a room with sea view.

Have just had a four night stay in this hotel. Our room was very good with ample bathroom. Food was good with plenty of choice, and staff were friendly and obliging. Rhyl not bad but needs a lot of money spent on it, lovely sands. Our coach trip was for Little Trains of N. Wales

first impressions were not good, the hotel outside looks unloved and unkempt with flaky paint and windows that look as if they are falling apart. Inside the decor is dated but clean, we paid £10 a night extra for a room that had been upgraded and the decor was fresh and bright and it was a large 3 bedded room. The TV did not want us to watch BBC 1 or 2, but for a two night stay it wasn't a problem.

we only had breakfast (which was included) and it was more than adequate, a good choice to start, but only full English (or any part of it) to finish. It was waitress service which could not be faulted and for what we paid we felt it was value for money. I looked at the evening meal menu and we were not inspired to eat in as it was very ordinary, but you get what you pay for!!

the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: pay for an upgrade it is worth it!!

my wife and i are recently back from a david urquhart five day visit to rhyl and had the misfortune to stay at this hovel sorry hotel. the window sill in our room was absolutely filthy the shower had been rescued from noah s ark, the television had a mind of its own, the bar prices were extortionate, the meals were basic, the staff okay, management not very friendly and my advice to anyone going to the westminster DONT. Yes, the hotel was "tired" with regard to decor and "first impression" - BUT - you cannot fault any of the staff. They are helpful, cheerful and concerned for everyone. Our room was adequate if jaded. If you want de-lux ensuite facilities with expansive views from a large bedroom suite, then go and pay 4 times (minimum) the amount you pay here. Compromise is needed sometimes. All we wanted the room for was a comfortable sleep after tiring days of activity with a hot shower. Add into the mix more than adequate choice of food (personally recommend the breakfast porridge with honey) AND some evenings live entertainment which can be "entertaining" (esp. see lady singer/comedy act with husband on decks). Drinks may be pricey at the bar, but with live entertainment to pay for........ Perhaps the cleaner could do with an extension on the vacuum cleaner as dust was evident under the old fashioned radiator and under the bed, but nothing that could not be resolved with a quiet word. Would summarise that overall it is good value for the money.

Room Tip: You can have sea views at the front but with traffic noise. The back has views of car park and serv...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this hotel for the money you pay. It seems to me that you people out there want to pay two star money for ten star treatment, I've just come back from this hotel having stayed there three days on a coach trip. The food was first class.room was fine. Staff could not do enough to help you, waitress on my table was always there to make sure everything was ok. There is a choice of breakfast if you don't want a full b/fast,poached egg on toast scrambled egg etc is always an option, as for salad swimming swimming in water, (load of rubbish) stop winging and enjoy your holiday

Room Tip: Don't listen to the moaners

After spending 5 days at this hotel, I can't believe some of the comments which had been made. We booked through David Urquhart travel and had subsequently read the comments on Tripadvisor. After a comfortable journey we were a little anxious to see our allocated room. However what a lovely surprise! The room was spacious, spotless and with a lovely sea view. The staff were very helpful and pleasant and only asked that we to tell them straight away if anything was not quite satisfactory. We had no such complaints! Our breakfasts were lovely, the first dinner was lovely and although the other meals were basic, many of our party only like plain food anyway. The entertainment was very much appreciated (though too loud on the Wednesday night) The waitresses were lovely especially Kath (from Liverpool) who went out of her way to be pleasant. Although we were above the entertainment we did not hear it after retiring for the night. Altogether a lovely break.
