Visited Porthmadog for the Trailfest last weekend. Travelled on the train up the mountain to watch the runners; at only £7.80, I feel it was a bargain. The staff on the train were brilliant, very friendly and helpful. The local people were great too. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be taking my grandchildren next time. Lovely day for all ages.
A must do if you are in the snowmobile national park.lovely scenery during the ride ,and time to spend in Porthmadog. Some lovely shops in Porthmadog, and nice places to eat.staff were so helpful and polite.
Whilst staying at Porthmadog we booked a trip to Caernarfon on the Ffestiniog steam train. We pushed the boat out and purchased First Class tickets (do it!!). The first class carriages had gorgeous individual armchairs facing each other with a polished wood table between. The train left on time for the 2.25 hour journey through the Snowdonia National Park to Caernarfon. Breakfast could be purchased on the train but as we had already eaten we settled for a cuppa. The steam engine was magnificent and beautifully restored. The scenery along the way was breathtaking. The train stopped part way along the route at the foot of Mount Snowdon, allowing time to get off and take photos. When we reached Caernarfon we had enough time to walk around the town and to visit the castle. It is well worth the entrance fee just to stand where Prince Charles had been invested as Prince of Wales in 1969. The views from the top ramparts of the castle are spectacular. We also had enough time for a boat trip along the Menai Strait to the tip of Anglesey. The trip back down was awesome, getting the full vista of the castle from the sea. The return train trip was just as gorgeous in the different light and relaxing with a G&T or two was ever so civilised. The Porthmadog harbour station has a pub attached so after returning around 6:00pm we were able to have a well earned pint and something to eat. A really great day out!!
Lovely day out! Would highly recommend to anyone. Cute gift shop and okay cafe, avoid the restaurant at all costs!
Beautiful scenery and wonderful trains! The staff are super friendly and facilities at each station are great. Beautiful beautiful trip
Decided to treat ourselves to a trip on the steam train to Blaenau Festiniog and we weren't disappointed! Picked a fabulous day and it was such a lovely ride through the Welsh countryside. On the way back we got off at a stop and walked to the next, picking up the last train of the day which was fun! Well oiled with refreshments en route, all in all a brilliant day out!
This was a wonderful experience from booking the seats on the phone to the actual day. Tickets arrived very promptly. As it was a special treat booked first class tickets. Well worth the experience. On the journey refreshments available. Staff friendly and helpful. Scenery wonderful.
