“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

We have just returned from an overnight at the Anchor and hope it will not be too long till we return! Beautifully decorated room, fantastic view of the harbour (room 1) and food to die for, what more could you ask ? We went for the early bird menu which was excellent value at £11.95 for two courses and £14.95 for three, nothing was scrimped on, generous portions, complimentary rosemaryand herb bread and really delicious food, we so enjoyed it. The staff were all very efficient and helpful, the batteries in our tv remote weren't working so we mentioned it to Hugh the duty manager, 15 minutes later the replacements arrived, ( thanks to whoever went out in the rain!) The only slight niggle was that at the buffet part of breakfast there wasn't a lot of room to get to it due to the positioning of tables very close by, but as I say a very, very minor point. Thanks again for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Room 1 had brilliant views!

Spent 2 nights at the Anchor Hotel and would definitely return. The food at dinner was first class. All three courses delicious. As many have already said, the seafood is great. Fishcakes, scallops, mussels and smoked haddock all sampled and just delicious. Duck, chicken and steak dishes also very very good, and plenty to eat. No skimping on portions here. The room was compact but very nice, the decor throughout the hotel is stylish and tasteful. With all that and a harbour view, what's not to like. Just one small thing; please put better bread on for toast at breakfast. Service always prompt and courteous.

Room Tip: Pay a little more and get a harbour view room. It really is worth it.

The hotel is in a great position . We had a great view from our room across the harbour . The room itself was spotless and very modern . The highlight of our stay was the fabulous seafood , so fresh and tasty and desserts were amazing . The staff couldnt do enough to help . We will definitely be back.

The hotel lives up to its "boutique" status feeling more comfy in practice that one might have perhaps thought from looking at the website.
The welcome from Hugh was friendly and all the staff throughout our stay were both friendly and helpful with efficient service at all times.
Our room was well fitted out in a modern but still attractive manner but was on the small side as was the en-suite. The ironing board (presumably 1 in each room?) was unnecessary especially as it took up so much room in the wardrobe-and there was nowhere else for it to go.
Bearing in mind we were there for New Year, they offered flexible times for breakfast which was good-and the breakfast was excellent though I do agree hot plates would have been ideal

Nice rooms and caring management made for a pleasant night in Tarbert. Very accommodating. When a large group of boaters was having an awards banquet in the restaurant, the staff made sure we weren't inconvenienced or disturbed. Very little noise made it up stairs to the rooms. When we return to the area, the Anchor Hotel would be where we would stay again.

My wife and I stayed here for one night in late October as a stopping off point in readiness for the next day ferry to the island of Islay. This is a very pleasant, recently refurbished 'boutique' hotel right on the harbour side. The bar and restaurant are popular with both guests and locals. Staff were friendly but perhaps a touch business like.

Our room over looked the harbour. It was on the small side but well-appointed with quality furnishings with a modern tasteful Scottish touch, flat screen television and the usual tea coffee etc. The ensuite was also small with shower (no bath), which, as it happens, is to our liking. The room did have a reasonable sized built in wardrobe and draw space in the dressing table unit. We could have stayed in here and have been comfortable for a few nights.
We took our evening meal in the restaurant. Fish dishes were dominant, all the food was good although this is my one criticism; hot food should be served on hot plates and these were barley warm - a bit of a let-down! The following morning breakfast was the usual full Scottish, we also had porridge. Once again plates were barley warm, it also seemed to take a long time; luckily our ferry was at lunchtime!

We would recommend this hotel and would return in the future (and ask for hot plates!).
