Another really pleasant and quite surprising place halfway between Target and Kennacraig ferry.

It's an old hotel and now that en-suite has been added to all the rooms some are a little cramped though great for staying the night. Comfortable bed, lovely bathroom but probably a little cramped if you were staying more than a couple of nights.

The restaurant is great [see separate review] and the staff great. The residents lounges are lovely as well.

Provides early morning take away breakfast if you are on the 7am ferry

I stayed here for three nights at the end of November whilst working on my boat in Tarbert and tucking her up for the winter. The first thing that strikes you on arrival is the pleasant decor and attractive lounge areas (well illustrated on the hotel web site) and wonderful warm log fires. All the staff are very friendly and obliging and there is a real home from home atmosphere. There is a well stocked bar with a comprehensive range of malt and rare blended whiskys, and some unusual gins (Botanist recommended) as well as a carefully selected and good value range of wines.
As I was on a bit of a budget I stayed in a cheaper single room, clean, fairly small but comfortably equipped with toiletries and it had room for a desk and chair. A plus point for communicating back to base (!) was that the Wi-Fi worked well.
A real highlight, frequently commented on in other reviews, was the high standard of food in the restaurant. Breakfasts are a pleasant affair overlooking the loch, with a good chice of local options including kippers, salmon and scrambled egg, or the West Loch Hotel full scottish breakfast.
Dinner is special, from the freshly baked choice of breads, excellent soups, and good variety of meat and seafood dishes which included scallops, pheasant, and an outstanding venison pie with shortcrust pastry and root vegetables while I was staying.
I will definitely be back. Other useful points: there is a good sized car park, and the hotel is located close to the ferry terminal to Islay and Jura. It is also a great place to stay for touring Argyll, and a trip to Gigha is well worth a visit. The hotel is dog friendly with two charming residents who help run the office.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights at the end of October and we honestly couldn't fault it. The staff were superb, the hotel was comfortable like a home from home and the view from our room (room 3) was lovely. The best thing about this hotel though is the food, the quality is outstanding. Can't wait to return.

What can I say?
I arrived after spending the best part of 24 hours wide awake driving here there and everywhere.
I arrived about 6pm after a six hour journey from hell, from Inverurie.
Peace. Peaceful surroundings, even the dog didn't bark - take note Maxi!!!!
The rooms are great, nice and warm, with free wi fi access.
Very nice lounge area with a very well stocked bar, unfortunately out of bounds due to work commitments.
Great welcome, great staff. Great location.
GREAT HOTEL!!!!
Thanks to all of you!!

Recently had an overnight stay before catching the ferry to Islay. Warm welcome and attentive staff. Stayed in room 3, above the main entrance with views across the Loch, which was a very comfortable albeit cosy double. Food offered was excellent and good value. We should just have ordered 2 starters as portions are huge. Would certainly stay again next time in the area.
