Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and ate in every night. It is in a wonderful location and is a part of Scotland we had not explored before. The walk out of Tarbert on the Kintyre Way is a must because the views over Tarbert and toward Arran are wonderful.
The food was absolutely excellent and as a good as I have had anywhere. Much better in my view than the swanky London Hotels. The room we were allocated was OK the downside for us was that it had a bath rather than a shower. Having said that the view over the loch and the food more than made up for it.
The staff were exceptionally helpful and could not do too much for you in making your stay as enjoyable as possible.
There is a great selection of Whiskies and a special gin or two from Islay.

Room Tip: Specify a sea view and shower if they are important to you.

We presented on spec at the hotel after our ferry to Islay was cancelled during extreme weather. The welcome we received was extremely warm and the service during our stay friendly, personal and attentive. The staff showed great interest and warmth throughout. The hotel was full of character and comfortable and our room had everything we would ask for with good facilities, a nice view and cleanliness. The catering during our stay was exceptional. This was despite a power cut that took place during hurricane winds that battered much of Scotland that day. The staff went to every effort to ensure our comfort and well being ensuring roaring fires and dinner by candle light and were extremely accommodating and generous. The reasonably priced tariff and food was an additional bonus. It more than made up for our delayed arrival on Islay and really added to our trip as a whole. A lovely place to stop and be looked after in.

This was a one night stop while returning from Islay. I had booked a single room, and was allocated a double for single use. The room was spotless with lovely fluffy pillows and duvet, and an en-suite shower room with all the usual facilities. I travel a fair bit in Scotland on business, and one consistent complaint I have is that single travelers are usually given rooms with a view of a car park or the wall of adjoining buildings. This was no exception, although that did not really matter in November.

The dinner was exceptional, a good and varied menu, served well by the friendly Czech waiter, and very reasonably priced. I had the smoked haddock on a bed of mash and spinach, and was very impressed. The house Pinot Grigio was well chosen and delicious. Breakfast was also a treat, and instead of the usual fry up I had smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. Not to be missed!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, and will certainly return. With luck I might get a room with a view next time!

On our way to Campbeltown recently, and travelling later in the day than usual, we stopped here for something to eat (at 8.30pm) half expecting to get the usual Scottish 'too late, we've stopped serving' reply, which blights our tourist trade. On the contrary! We were given a warm welcome, and enjoyed an excellent meal with great service. We have driven past this hotel on many occasions and knowing it from its previous life,we would not have stopped! Since the takeover I am delighted to see that things have changed and we will definitely return! A great place to stop en route to Campbeltown.

Recently had a two night stay at this hotel. The new owners, who took over in June 2011, couldn’t have made us (and our 2 border terriers) feel more welcome with their friendly and attentive service. The menu included local dishes including our favourite, Loch Fyne Kippers. We found the food excellent and judging by the conversations in the dining room, so did the other guests. Our room and the hotel in general was clean. We’d definitely stay again and recommend to our friends and family.
