With a stunning location right on Loch Fyne, this is a lovely hotel to stay in for a few days, to act as a base for exploring Loch Fyne, and further along the Mull of Kintyre.
It's a beautiful building, and the setting is just superb. Inside is clean and well presented, but you start to get the feeling that maintenance is starting to go adrift, and perhaps the owners aren't spending much on this property any more.
The few staff work hard and are all pleasant, but again I sense some frustration. One member of staff covering reception, the bar, and the restaurant at one point is just unfair. The rooms are small but adequate. Breakfast is just about adequate, and dinner was very good with local seafood.
We got a ridiculously good rate through the hotel's own website. I know it's still low season, but if they charged a bit more, perhaps hire a few more staff, and push this property to the 'luxury' level it is capable of...? Until then, it's a 3 star hotel in a 5 star location.

Absolutely fantastic 2 night break. Stunning location, gorgeous Castle, amazing food, hope to go back!. Just been to Stonefield Castle for mid-week break with husband. Wanted to get away from it all and chill. This is the place. Stunning surroundings, plenty of places to sit and relax in the hotel including bar, library, drawing room etc. Bedroom was "superior room" and typical of any chain with modern furnishings. Hotel furnishings were complimentary to unique period features and very comfortable.
Food was magnificent, even for myself, a fussy veggie and husband who adores all good foods! Contrary to whingers previously writing about £25 allowance on DBB deals plenty of choice to eat within this allowance. However would recommend you spend the couple of pounds extra and try the amazing langoustines, mussels and oysters if you fancy (only £2.25 for one to try!) amongst other choices. Main courses choice of plenty of seafood, chicken, pork, beef and veggie option. A La Carte Menu only had one main veggie, but spoke to reception for next night and chef added another. Desserts are to die for, had the best dessert ever - warmed gingerbread with butterscotch sauce and spicy date ice cream, absolutely amazing! Full breakfast plentiful again with veggie option, will keep you full for most of day. Views from restaurant are stunning, looking over Loch Fyne and a small island, linked to the hotel grounds by a causeway and ideal for a 40 minute walk. Gorgeous gardens and grounds surrounding Castle are well maintained. Short drive into Tarbert which is well worth a visit, with nice selection of craft shops and galleries, with plenty of places for eating and some nice walks up around castle remains, again with stunning views. Service in hotel was good, very relaxing and no hustle. If you like to moan or find fault with the slightest thing, bother someone else. If you're looking for a place to romance, unwind or just get away from it all, go to Stonefield Castle. Take your camera and I hope the weather is good for you.

watch out for the menu, guest s on a BBD basis are given a £25 limit to use against the menu, no chance of getting three courses as average price on the menu is £18 for main meal also menu is heavily weighted to seafood and is al a carte, so portions are very small, breakfast very good. lovely walks around the hotel, nearest town is Tarbert which is about an hours walk, don't listen to the staff when they tell you it is 20 minutes!

My husband and I travelled with a group of close friends to Stonefield for my 40th birthday. I discussed our requirements in detail with the manager, Liz, prior to our arrival and she ensured that our stay was as expected. The location of the hotel is stunning and an ideal setting for any overnight or weekend stay. The weather was also fantastic and overall the group were very satisfied and the majority, if not all, would certainly stay again. My only minor disappointment, which was unfortunate, was that a family were allocated next to our room and had their stay marred by noise from our group. When 12 couples come together though noise is unavoidable and I would suggest that the hotel try where possible to allocate groups together so as not to disrupt anyone else's stay.

My wife and I spent a weekend there with two friends. From the time we entered the hotel until our departure it was superb. The welcome, service, food, and all the staff were really wonderful. It was a great weekend and I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to anyone. We shall undoubtedly return there.

Lovely old castle in beautiful setting offering peace and tranquility. We stayed for a thoroughly pleasant 2 nights. Staff offered a warm welcome and were incredibly helpful throughout our stay. Our spacious room was well finished and while its decor could perhaps be upgraded it was in keeping with the traditional ambience of the overall facility. Views from the dining room were simply breathtaking and offered an unparalleled backdrop to the fantastic food and wine on offer. The only downside was that although the hotel welcomed dogs in the guest rooms they were not permitted in the public rooms such as the library, drawing room or bar. Overall we loved our stay and would highly recommend it.

We received a warm and friendly welcome, although the guided tour of the ground floor (4 rooms) was a little pointless. Our room had what they called a "garden view" which was actually a patch of grass before the car-park. A little imagination and landscaping could hide the carpark and give something smarter than a patch of grass to look at. Very disappointing considering the price of the room and the fact there are stunning views across Loch Fyne from the majority of rooms. Room was comfortable and tastefully decorated although the wallpaper was peeling in places and the bathroom desperately needs a makeover. The shower made the most horrific noise when started. There's really nothing to do, or at least there's no indication there's anything to do - again, some imagination and signposts could make for interesting walks. Could do with building a swimming pool / sauna as there's nothing else there - the Library and Drawing Room are beautiful rooms but a little useless. With 60 acres of grounds there should be plenty to do and see.
Breakfast was disappointing as everything was flashed under a grill, the potato scone wasn't cooked and the bacon had started to go off.
On the plus side, dinner was excellent.
