“Superb building, Impressive location, less impressive rooms.”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

On arriving at the castle you cannot fail to be impressed with the building and the breathtaking views of loch Fyne. The original parts of the castle are impressive but inside now look a little tired. It feels like a refurb or at least a freshen up is well overdue. We stated in rooms in an annex that was well past it's best, bordering on tatty. The room was clean enough but very much in need of some serious updating. It let the castle down on my view. We had an evening meal here which was served in the dining room. This room offered wonderful views of the loch as the sun went down. The dining room it's self was a bit tatty and again past it's best. The meal was good but not outstanding. Service was ok but again nothing special. Overall I felt the stay was ok and that it was trading on the appearance of the castle and its location. Once inside I was a bit disappointed. I also felt it was over priced for the quality of the stay and meals we had.

Booked two night stay. The building is very impressive from the outside. It felt that you were stepping back in time when you went inside. Also felt that the receptionist was a little sharp and didn't like to give eye contact. She gave a very quick tour of where to find things as she was showing us to our room. We felt that this was a chore to her. The room was dated and dark but clean. Comfortable beds and clean linen. The breakfast in the morning was good quality and plenty of choice. Upon checking out we did notify the receptionist that we had heard a constant humming noise in the room. She didn't seem too bothered and had said that no-one had reported it before! Maybe some Customer Service training would help to improve the experience. Doubt we will be going back to this hotel.

Stayed here for 2 nights on our way to Islay. Views are simply stunning - Scotland at its best. Room was large but a bit tired. Bed a bit hard but I guess that's about personal preference. Food was lovely and staff really friendly - especially Heather on reception who made our 4 year old v welcome. Fudge the chocolate Labrador was fantastic!!!

Our daughters wedding was held in Stonefield Castle on the 10th August and what a amazing weekend it was. Anne and her staff went out of their way to help make the weekend perfect.
From the time we arrived on Friday until we left on Monday nothing was too much trouble. Anne provided a place for the florist to work her magic and the chef even went out with his pots to get lobsters for the bride and groom for the Friday BBQ!
The wedding breakfast was brilliant and service was attentive and polite.
Thanks Anne.

If you like the typical british castle hotel experience, then this is your thing. Large castle with many function rooms. Breakfast is served in a wonderful room with 270 degrees view over bay.

Staff is very friendly.

Rooms and bathrpoms are in urgent need of refurbishment though.

This was the first honeymoon which we stayed in on our honeymoon and it was really gorgeous to drive into. The hotel is historical and gorgeous but really needs work. We stayed in a superior room which was old and quaint but ins one areas too much so. There was a four poster bed with no curtains and the bedding was very old and tired with pillows so thin I had to use the decorative cushions to place underneath, there is no signal there and the free wifi they offer was somewhat flaky. The wallpaper in the bathroom was coming off the wall and there was a shower curtain which whilst clean smelled.

This was in complete contrast to the food offered which was well thought out being locally sourced and beautifully presented. The dining room was also amazing with some of the best views you can only hope to see in life.

The staff were lovely and friendly and you could tell they cared but if they want to be a true four star hotel they need to make some investment on cleaning up and putting some finesses into areas other than the food. I would go back again but in the knowledge this isn't a luxury hotel room wise but definitely food wise

Stayed here for an overnight with my partner recently. THe weather was a bit rainy over the time we were there which was a shame as when it cleared the views were stunning. We did go for some nice walks in the area it was very peaceful and right on the loch.

The hotel was lovely lots of relaxing sofa areas to curl up on an billiards table meant on a wet sunday we were able to stay in and have a game. Lots of magazines and papers lying out for guests use which was nice. A lovely resident dog roamed about.

The food was amazing, dinner served in a restaurant with breathtaking views, the restaurant is quite large and the only downside was did seem to lack in atmosphere even very low key music in the background would have enhanced the atmosphere from my perspective. That said the standard of dinner could not be faulted. Breakfast was the same table service I had the Egss Benedict which were great and the staff came and checked if any more tea, toast etc was required. Staff were all very helpful.
