We very much enjoyed our stay at Struan House. A warm welcome and comfort and very tasty and varied breakfasts as well. The restaurant downstairs has delicious food and is very good value (with substantial portions) and John and Kristen are very interesting folk. Definitely 5 star plus.

Food is excellent in the bistro - don't wait until your last night to try it as we did, because you'll regret it!! Gluten-free options are available including bread at breakfast if you ask in advance and pizzas and pastas for the bistro. The gluten-free seafood pizza was blindingly good.

We were lucky to get the view out over Tarbert overlooking the activity of the small fishing port and seeing all the sailing boats in the little marina and the houses on the opposite hillside. The room was also clean, comfortable and we could control the heating ourselves. Altogether a wonderful place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for the view over the harbour if you like watching the bustle of a little fishing port and the g...

Lovely B&B in this cosy harbour village. Our room was lovely - the Arran. Great view over the little fishing boats in the harbour. Excellent hosts and the kippers at breakfast were delicious, the bistro is gorgeous and lots of stylish touches. Such a pity we weren't able to eat dinner there - but next time we most certainly will. Talking to our excellent hosts revealed an excellent ethos for fresh local food and the menu looked really enticing. Can't recommend highly enough.

Despite it being the first week in February and very cold outside, the house and room were very cosy. As I was working outside during the days, I really appreciated the hot shower and most comfortable accommodation at Struan House.
The breakfasts were excellent and set me up for the efforts of the day.

We booked a month in advance and had my 6 week old, 19 month old, sister, mum and niece who was 17 weeks old. We had to all put on as much clothing as possible as it was freezing! It was a cold spell of weather just before christmas. At breakfast the owner asked how we had slept, we told her how cold it was and she said that they don't usually have the heating on through the winter as they don't usually get guests!!! I would suggest you don't entertain staying here unless the weather outside is very hot!! Not

Apologies again.
We have apologised to these guests for a genuine problem. We have a new heating system and at first I thought it would be a stuck radiator pin causing a problem. I then found that the isolating valve had been turned down rather than the thermostat. This upsets the balance of the system.
This would have been a previous guest who would have mistakenly turned this side down rather than the thermostat. So many of our guests do not want heating in the bedroom when sleeping and prefer a cooler room. This has been compounded by a sharp cold spell at this time.
Clearly I should have checked this valve.
I have now fitted blanking valve covers on the isolating side to stop this happening again.
I have replied to this guest to make amends.
We run a small family business here and are very concerned to help our guests in every way.
The vast majority of our reviews are excellent as shown on the site.
Hands up on this error and I can assure any guest of a warm welcome in person and room.

... is exactly what John and Kristen did to make our wedding weekend perfect! We booked out all 6 rooms for family and everyone was comfortable and well looked after. We could come and go as we pleased. It was a home from home- being comfortable and clean with everything we needed.
Nothing was too much trouble and when John was asked to paddle me (the bride) in a canoe across the harbour to the wedding ceremony, he not only obliged but didn't make me feel that it was a silly request! They also offered all sorts of considerate advice and helpful suggestions to make sure that I got there safely and that the groom got the surprise that I had hoped for!
The location of Struan House is also great. Central but quiet with great views over the harbour. Add in the little bistro, Scott's, that they run downstairs and you have the makings of a blissful weekend. See my review of Scott's Bistro...

Room Tip: Harbour views are lovely

John and Kristen run a very nice little B&B, ideal position overlooking the harbour (albeit the working part), very comfortable rooms, and friendly and accommodating hosts. Their downstairs bistro gave us probably the best meal of our two weeks in Scotland. Breakfast was fine and nicely cooked, although we too found the guest-operated-toaster not only unique but not ideal. Whilst it does mean you get your toast fresh when you want it, the machines seemed to be particularly slow and entailed standing and watching for quite some time. Would we stay again - most certainly.

Thank you for this review.
It's refreshing to see a balanced constructive review.
I am happy to report that we have replaced the older toaster and have a nice shiny red replacement.
Very retro...
We still provide self service with the toast which allows guests to have it when they choose.
It is not unusual to have self service on the toast as many other establishments also provide this.
We are of course happy to serve your toast if you prefer.
